i know alot of scientists say this so people just agree, but how can anyone say this with a straight face?
What happens if you observe yourself before you even left but then change your mind about going?

Now back to Chuck Yeager's adventures in space......
Can anyone remember how Chuck destroyed Pluto making it not a planet anymore? I'm pretty sure he used lasers.

So back on topic, if NASA says with reasonable certainty that they've found an earth like planet with water and an atmosphere similar to ours, how would the world react?
Fundamentalists from all sides would flip their shite I think. Many NASA scientists insist they'll prove within 20 years that there is life outside of Earth, and I'm amazed that they're that confident in it.

Did you really say we broke the speed of light in 1950? GD, son.

Half of the posts on here are trolls. Don't mind them.

Only on the OT can I find posters who build upon Newtons and Einsteins particle theory.

I think what they're talking about is detecting a planet that conclusively is not only Earth like, but has everything present that leaves there without any reasonable doubt that complex life exists on it. So yeah, we're now talking about ET.

As a "fundamentalist" Christian. I believe there is a better than 50% chance God did create life on other worlds. I just don't think we will ever be able to reach them. Now, them reach us? That's a different discussion.
If Aliens came to earth, and said they believed in an almighty creator. You want to talk about flipping some shite.....atheists wouldn't know what to do with themselves.
Yes, I know that statement is easily reversed.

In special relativity, it is impossible to accelerate an object to the speed of light, or for a massive object to move at the speed of light. However, it might be possible for an object to exist which always moves faster than light. The hypothetical elementary particles with this property are called tachyonic particles.

We didn't just break it, we made it our bitch!

Back on subject; put me in the camp that believes not only is there life, but it is abundant, and in different stages of evolution. And we will need the ability to planet hop, or risk being taken over by outside beings, like we did to the Native Americans. To do this, we will need to slowly expand, and put "stations" along the way. Mapping our surroundings is the initial step.

Meh. God puts things in this universe for us to discover and learn about. I would consider it another thing he put out there for us to discover

It's shocking to me that they would make a comment like that as well but I honestly don't expect them to find anything of substance in my lifetime.

Our minds are not capable of understanding 13 billion years or trillions of stars just in our galaxy.... or trillions of galaxies in the universe. That amount of space and time would guarantee multiple instances of life and death throughout.
The problem is that if we (or any other being) were going to find one another, it would have happened already. We are not alone, yet we very much are.

Why? Why can't it happen in 100 years, or 1000 years, or tomorrow?

There's a lot to learn about quantum physics. Classical physics says you can't break the speed of light. Quantum physics often doesn't follow the rules of classical physics.
