A 1500 yr old plaque commemorating Al Gore's discovery of global warming reads. "See all the roads that we had for cars, rivers and rail lines for heavy transportation. We figured, hell he invented the internet...must know WTF he's talking about. A few of us escaped to the blue planet next to us. We call ourselves Obamites."

NASA the Nazi Alien Space Agency (Look it up) will never announce anything incredible. That is not their role.Their role is to cover shite up and has been since day one.

I've lost a lot of faith in humanity reading you morons talk about NASA. Even for the OT, you all are a step above.

Can someone cliff notes this for me? The NASA stream sucks balls - constantly buffering. Guess because half the US is trying to stream this.

Do we have liquid water or not? Or do we just have evidence of water a long time ago?

Talking about using remote sensing from orbiter to find chemical makeup of Mars surface at the dark seasonal streaks that are observed.

I think no liquid water, but evidence of liquid water that still comes and goes seasonally today.

Hmmm. Can't figure out how excited to be about this. If we can figure out a way to collect this water and make it potable then Mission to Mars just got a lot easier. No need to ship our own water or convert sweat/urine long term.

We really need to get people there. a radiation protected science lab on the Surface with humans in it for six month stretches researching the frick out of that place with an emphasis on how Mars came to be what it is today, and what are viable processes for terraforming. 12 month stints: three months getting there, six months there, three months coming back.

There are already interesting, really viable plans for terraforming that can take no more than a few hundred to a few thousand years. We need to start this process as soon as possible before as a species we die on Earth. We need to create a back-up to the harddrive that is the human genome.

It takes longer than that to get there. At its optimal orbit, it would take at least 6 months to get to Mars, and then you have to wait years for the orbits to realign or it could take over a year to get back to Earth, which would be hell on the human body. This just isn't a viable model when it comes to exploring Mars. It's at least a 3 year mission going to Mars, if not 5. Not to mention the fact that launching from Mars is much more harrowing than launching from the Moon.
