Right. It's called a geosynchronous orbit. It does rotate. It just rotates at a speed that matches the orbit so that it never turns its face from the Earth. It's a little different than saying it doesn't rotate.

Agreed, but "it doesn't rotate" has that wow factor. It's the click bait of scientific fact.

Do you mean common knowledge as in people just in general know about the fact/theory/etc., or that they actually believe it.

Plenty of people deny evolution for example, but I'd say it's common knowledge that the theory exists.

No, that is not geosynchronous orbit. Geosynchronous orbit is when the orbit around the earth, in the same direction as the earth's rotation, takes exactly one day. If the moon were in geosynchronous orbit, it would only be visible from one side of the earth, appearing to stay in roughly the same position in the sky, all the time.

The left lane on a surface street isn't the "fast" lane.

i don't really understand your question. Name a fact/theory... People act like isn't common knowledge.

A theory is an idea that is suggested as a possibly true but that is not known or proven to be true. So name a theory that people act like it isn't or is common. I'm confused.

For the most part, nobody is responding properly. I think what the OP is getting at is something a person tells you as if it's cutting edge or a new discovery, but is in fact common knowledge. At least, that's how I read it.
