So you're telling us that your son is a complete nerd and won't have a date until he's out of college. And then he'll marry the first fat chick that goes on a date with him.
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!!!

That's awesome. Keep encouraging him. Take him to some competitions

Is he retarded like Rainman?

The chess time app will place him against equally ranked players. You start at 1200 and it will adjust your rating as you win / lose. There is a chat function though, so not sure about a 9yo on it?

I kind of don't really believe you because inconsistencies, but if true let him play on either chess.com or lichess. You can sign up for a free account. You don't get better unless you can play people better than you.

I was better at chess when i was 9 years old than I am now.
Probably because I haven't played the game in 20 years.

Your oldest daughters boyfriend was in your high school chess club? Holy shite
He worded it terribly but when he said "our HS" I assume he meant the HS he sent his daughter to

I like the story.
Chess is the best of all board games... almost perfectly evolved with diverse pieces working harmoniously.

be wary of your son's exposure to the game of poker. I was big into chess at his age too, though good, not nearly as a prodigy as he seems to be. He has tremendous ability for logical and reductive reasoning, game theory, etc, and a number of high level chess, backgammon, and other type players have made very successful poker players financially.
That being said, many of the poker players I know are also some of the most unhappy people i know. I've concluded professional gambling to be the most mentally and emotionally unhealthy and long term unrewarding jobs one can have.
If he finds his way into it, do whatever you can to try to make sure he finishes school and gets a professional job and views poker as a side job or profitable hobby, and that most of his social circle consists of regular people, not full time poker players.

But can your son etch the word "fart" into wood paneling?
Posted on 2/24/16 at 10:07 pm to Dick Leverage
sounds awesome for both you and your son. I honestly wouldn't push him that much at this point, just so that he doesn't pick up some arrogance or obsession that will not be good for him later...
I would consider having him tested to see if you can figure out exactly why he is excelling and parlay those skills into ways for him to make a living later on in life (i.e. does he have a remarkable memory?, an excellent ability to concentrate?, etc.)

You're almost 10 and you have a kid?
Posted on 2/24/16 at 10:10 pm to Dick Leverage
You should encourage him to cultivate this gift, just don't be that douche who lives vicariously through his sons accomplishments.

I agree. Nudge him, don't push, to explore how far he wants to go. There have been plenty of child/teen Grandmasters before. It is possible.
