Publix already uses this model. They have higher prices and advertise that they are for your pleasant shopping experience. Their stores are big, clean, well designed and well stocked. They have the BOGO thing going but are overall quite expensive.
Also, LeAnn Rimes is not very pretty. She is nice though. She is also a gym rat and is sculpted more than most. Having pretty hair and 10 million dollars can certainly make her appear more attractive though.

I have a better slogan:
"Shop at X-Groceries. Where hard-working Americans go to shop!"
As far as politics is concerned, this has always been a way to say middle/upper-class whites without actually saying middle/upper-class whites.

PC backlash would be to big. You are also kidding yourself if you don't think the fresh stuff (produce, meat, fish, dairy) is of better quality at a nicer store

i pretty much refuse to shop anywhere that accepts EBT cards. I'll suck it up and go to wal mart if i really have to, but typically i see no reason. I can get what I need at the "fancy grocery"

Drunk at 6:14 AM? Been there. You don't have to live this way.

This is the second time in as many days as I've brought up Wegmans grocery stores...

Neighbor Walmart stores have good shoppers.

Trader Joe's is not impressive at all. Produce markets for vegetables and Calandro's for beef. Sam's for paper goods.
But I get your point. OP is talking about a concept that has been around for a long time if you don't live in Hick's Ville.

There's a better selection at Whole Foods for meat and produce for sure. But it's not that often that I really need to get something like that. Most of my veggies are things like green beans in a can. Most of my meat is chicken breast and ground meat that will be frozen. I don't need to pay 8 dollars for the freshest stuff if I'm going to freeze it and only need to pay 4 at another store. I will shop there sometimes, but could easily live without it.
Like everyone said, many stores use this model and we all realize it. I'm just wondering how much we lie to ourselves. If a store flat out said they are pricey to keep the poors out, people wouldn't go there. Yet if you just sweep that shite under the rug, it's all good.

I'll shop at Walmart because I'm not arrogant enough to think that I can't be around lower class people for an hour a week

But trader joes is cheap.
I haven't been impressed. Maybe it's because of the location in BR, but I mostly see the garden district hipsters in Trader Joes.
Fresh Market and Alexanders are 1a and 1b for women.

quote:Look, I don't think "poor people" are the problem. People, in general, can be assholes and most have no awareness.
I was wondering last night, as I realized we needed groceries, which store we should go to. When I'm in the mood, I'll go to the nicer store even though it's more expensive. I'm not fooling myself into thinking the products are better. Kind of like Whole Foods. I like to shop there every once and a while, but I really dont care if my bananas are organic or anything. I just like shopping around less shitty people just as much as the larger selection of non-standard items. So, I'm willing to spend the extra money. I think that's why most people do it. To stay away from the Walmart type shoppers, they'll spend more.
So my question is, do you think people could be honest with themselves about it. If I started a nicer upscale grocery store and our advertisement always ended with "Shop at X-groceries. Where we may cost a little more, but you don't have to be around poor people!" You think people would run with it, or would the PC backlash be too big. Not trying to be an arse, just wondering if people are honest enough with themselves to realize thats why at least half the people shop at Whole Foods in the first place.
My problem with Walmart isn't necessarily the zoo exhibits I walk through in that place with the people shopping there, it's the awful lines, terrible service and them NEVER having the shelves stocked.
I go to Costco to stock up on things I eat a lot, like fruits and veggies and meat and I get dry goods from Big Lots. Smaller items or beer I'll get from Winn-Dixie or Rouse's.
I resist going to Walmart at all costs just because I can't stand being in that place.

I've been avoiding the grocery store all together and using Blue Apron.
No weirdos gawking at me as I shop.

I actually shop at Walmart just as much as Whole Foods, HEB, Kroger, etc.. But I see the difference in the stores. They are all within 10 minutes of me. Just like to mix it up sometimes. When I'm in some of the other places, you can just tell a different clientele gravitates towards those stores. And I don't think it's purely because of what they offer (although Walmart is lacking in the meats/produce section).
The Walmart by my house is actually really nice. I have no issue shopping there. The Walmart by me when I lived in Louisiana caused me to not shop there. It was down-the-bayou-trashy on steroids. I tried for a bit, but couldn't do it.

I rarely see lines that different at Walmart than anywhere else. I don't really need "service" there, and I never have once had an issue with the shelves being stocked??
I'm not saying your Walmart doesn't have these problems, but I don't see them where I'm at
I shop at albertsons, Costco and rouses on occasion too, but we go to Walmart when we need other household items

I just don't see a point in shopping at multi stores. I don't like the meat at Walmart therfore shop at WF's.
Posted on 8/19/15 at 8:21 am to jmcs68
I don't shop at multiple stores on the same day but I will choose the place I go based on what I need
If my kids need some type of supply for school, I'll go to Walmart and get whatever groceries I need there.
If I need a couple things for dinner, I'll go to rouses because it's closer to my house
