I was wondering last night, as I realized we needed groceries, which store we should go to. When I'm in the mood, I'll go to the nicer store even though it's more expensive. I'm not fooling myself into thinking the products are better. Kind of like Whole Foods. I like to shop there every once and a while, but I really dont care if my bananas are organic or anything. I just like shopping around less shitty people just as much as the larger selection of non-standard items. So, I'm willing to spend the extra money. I think that's why most people do it. To stay away from the Walmart type shoppers, they'll spend more.

So my question is, do you think people could be honest with themselves about it. If I started a nicer upscale grocery store and our advertisement always ended with "Shop at X-groceries. Where we may cost a little more, but you don't have to be around poor people!" You think people would run with it, or would the PC backlash be too big. Not trying to be an arse, just wondering if people are honest enough with themselves to realize thats why at least half the people shop at Whole Foods in the first place.

This is why I am grateful for FreshDirect. I order all of my stuff online and it gets delivered to my door. No lines, no people, no worries.

I think everyone knows why people shop at "high end" grocery stores but I don't think you can come out and say it in an advertisement

It does a good job at keeping the "right" clientelle with low prices. But I think thats because of the selection. They have more random items, while not having all the standard items. So they draw a different crowd. I'm talking about just taking the same grocery store you always go to and slapping a new name brand on it. I think that would cause it to fail, but in reality, its why I shop at the more expensive place some days.

Grocery stores are like restaurant. Their clientele depends on three things.

Location, location, location...

Idt it'll work buddy. Most of the ppl that I know who shop there have white guilt. This is the crowd who is not prejudice, just looooves everyone, but live way outside of their means to be in a Youngsville neighborhood (examp.). Point, they're not the type who will ever admit that they do any of these things to primarily avoid other ethnic groups.

No shite. I like to shop at Walmart and get the good prices and poke fun at the people "i didn't become".

Then I laugh at the Whole Foods snobs with their fancy shite in the break room.
