10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes, in my "need to know" pose, just outside of Area 51.

Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thing with just a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this.

Cutting right angle donuts on a dime and stopping right at my Birkenstocks, and me yelping...

Holy fricking shite!

Great picture.

It reminds me of Joe Rogan and Maynard James Keenan's conversation about all the crazy stuff you see in a place as isolated as Sedona.

I love that picture. Saving it for my desktop now.

ETA: I like dark wallpapers so this is perfect. You can see individual galaxies when you open the full version.

Wow, that is a huge compliment. I didn't think anyone would ever use my pictures for their desktop.

As I have gotten more into backpacking, I have also gotten more into landscape/night photography so to hear you say that means a lot.

I have a higher resolution if you need.

I didn't technically camp. I live in Flagstaff so only about a 50 minute drive from this location. One night when the sky was particularly clear, I drove down and camped out just in the sense of waiting up for the moon to set and the stars to be the brightest, which ended up being right around 2 AM this night.

War Eagle and that's awesome!

I had to work in Brisbane Australia for 6 months in 2005. We had a chance to spend a weekend on Stradbroke Island, several miles off the eastern coast, and the night we spent there, on the beach, away from the lights was absolutely remarkable. The brightest, clearest, most amazing night sky I have ever seen in my 46 years in lots of different places. The Milky Way was WHITE. Next time you go camping or are outdoors away from city lights, look up. Depending on the moon's phase, you might see something absolutely remarkable. Here's to kickoff SEC people!

Awesome photo. I'd love the opportunity to use my telescope in a place like that.

Misleading thread. You said you captured the Milky Way and all you did was take a picture.

I opened the thread expecting to see a pic of you holding the Milky Way.

Great photo, anyway !

so, are you my brother or LSU Dave? if neither, there are a couple tigers in the area to watch games with.

f/3.5, ISO 3200

18mm focal length on a crop sensor, so I used an 18 second exposure

I need to get a better lens for astrophotography.

I love space pictures and I prefer dark backgrounds. Great picture and fits perfectly. Good job.
