I remember it like yesterday. I was laying on the bathroom floor in the dark. I felt I owed it to my mom to say I loved her before I died.

Blood is common. I have passed more than most anyone I have ever heard of.

Blood is usually present even if not visible.

If pain continues return to doctor for better pain relief and they may want to do another scan to make sure it is not creating back pressure on your kidney.

Some times lingering severe pain results when the stone is stationary in the tube and causing spasms around the stone.

Blood and severe pain may indicate a faster moving stone that is cutting as it moves.

(I have had so many stones I have crazy stories. Best one is as I was driving my wife to the hospital who was in labor I have one hit me. We get her taken care of and then they deal with me. I wake up in her room and they have stopped her labor. She was not happy)

Good luck. Best advice I can give you.

I was at a Saints game with my girlfriend when mine started. It felt like a lion had bitten me in the lower back. I thought I slipped a disk or worse.

My doctor friend told me to go to LSU's ER - I had just graduated so I didn't have health insurance yet or any money. She explained that LSU wouldn't bill a broke dude like me. I figured Tulane's ER would be less crowded and was closer so we went there instead.

That was a $13,515 mistake - for a CT scan, an x-ray and an epidural. Getting that bill in the mail almost hurt worse than the kidney stone.

It ended up taking a month to pass. They say 6mm is the biggest you can pass naturally, mine was 5. Since then I've had one more and not taken any steps to cure the problem. I'm gonna have some water now..

I had a buddy who expressed a similar sentiment to me multiple times.

I made a special trip to his house years later so I could laugh at him squirming around his floor as he experienced his first stone. Took pictures even.

I have passed stones and never batted an eye. Had others that had me on the floor.

When you feel the pain, it is severe and it does not let up. Let someone put your nuts in a press. Squeeze then till you feel nauseous and then stay that way for a few hours. Best way I know to describe real stone pain. Seriously.

I resist taking pain meds as much as possible. Try to fight it. But it gets to the point you want relief.

My last trip to ER I refused meds. Just wanted to make sure it was not blocking and causing back pressure in my kidney. Nurse came in multiple times with pain meds and I told them no. Doctor comes in an hour or so later and tells me to stop being an stubborn arse and take the meds. Ended up having a stone the size of a grape crushed and then pissed gravel for a week. I wanted to cry every time I thought about peeing.

The back pressure is what causes the horrible pain. I currently have a 9mm stone stuck in the tube (ureter) between my kidney and bladder. The doc put in a stent around the stone which allows the kidney to drain. Without medication, when I pee, back pressure from my bladder causes urine to flow back into the kidney and hurts like hell until I finish.

Yep. And if not treated that back pressure can cause kidney failure. Stint allows the pressure to be released.

9mm stone? You planning on passing that thing yourself?

I have had 1 9mm stone crushed. Last one was 11-12 mm.

Stint. Only had one. Removed that sob myself at home. Had no idea how long they were. Kept pulling. Appeared as though it was draining my sinuses after I finished getting it out. Lol

I think I have been given toradol before when I asked for a non narcotic while in college and had a stone.

Mine started at 14mm. Had Litotripsy a week or so ago, which needless to say was a failure. I'm supposed to have the laser treatment done to it next week. Doctor says after laser it going to feel like I'm pissing razor blades for awhile. I've asked to either be put into a coma for a few months or just cut the whole damn kidney out, but he won't do either of those.

Sorry to hear that.

Pissing razor blades is a good description.

I seriously remember the sense of dread that would enter my mind as I began feeling the urge to take a leak.

As bad as it is just remember

(I got nothing to finish this with)

Good luck.

Fwiw. I stopped counting stones many years ago as i approached 100. Family curse.

100 stones not 100 years. Lol

I cannot say enough good about these diclofenac sodium suppositories. I found a little blurb on a message board about them. They are like magic for this damn pain when I pee, and for the non stop sensation of needing to pee.

Yeah it appears that they give that too. A lot of people get toradol and tramadol confused. But it appears that both are given and I was wrong is assuming they had confused the two.

I used to get tramadol for breakthrough pain and I finally just told them to stop writing it for me because it wasn't worth the trouble or even price of filling it to me.

Tramadol isn't really narcotic, even though I think it has been moved to the Controlled Substance list.

It just made me bloated feeling and shitty feeling. Juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

Never heard of that griswold.

Will ask my doctor about them. (I actually have felt twinges the past couple of days. My wife looked at me last night and I quote

"Do you have a stone moving? Your eyes look like you have a stone moving"

Lol

CNt do anything but laugh. And squirm in the floor sometimes.

That is horrible. My count is around 10 or so. This is only the 2nd one in 35 years that I couldn't pass, so I consider myself lucky.

That's just an all around good nsaid I reckon. I get Voltaren Gel, which is just name brand, and that stuff helps a lot for any type of back pain. Odorless, not greasy. I first tried it when my mom got some for her rotator cuff and had leftovers that she gave to me. After that I ask my Dr for some. Didn't know it could be used for KS.

The more you know........

It happens for larger stones sometimes. At one point there was bloody urine with bits of tissue in it, which was preceded by extreme pain. That was not the end of the ordeal though. I could feel it clearly moving to and wrecking my ureter over the next day.

They gave me a lot of drugs that took the edge off and it passed a couple of days later. I think it went okay but I was high as a kite through the subsequent spells.

Good luck.
