You can attempt to write it off at tax time, but no company is forced to pay for internet for WFH.

Unreimbursed expenses are not allowed for employees under TCJA. Sorry.

Do you not see how that might peeve some that were duped in the hiring process?

The entire interview process are two parties that are doing their best into duping the other how great of an employee/employer they are.

Probably lucky they didn’t send you a bill for non WFH related usage by you and your family if they have been paying for it.

I signed an agreement that my company provided internet service would not be used for anything other than work.

My family uses a separate line.

I agree but I interpreted the OP’s post as something they started giving the perk when they had to go WFH during the plandemic so it was a payment given temporarily to offset the expense for those forced to WFH for reasons beyond their control.

No…I’ve been WFH for 5 years.
Company has paid for a separate dedicated work line the whole time. I never see the bill…they pay my provider directly.

What a fortune 50 thing to do.

If they sent you an email literally saying that in an effort for equity, only the execs and the newbs get free internet, this will be leaked. The problem with quiet shite moves in the top 50 is they don't stay quiet for long.

I'm surprised nothing has come out since the start of this thread to be honest.

Well in that case, that’s bs and you’ve every right to be aggravated.

When my wife worked from home it was a requirement to have internet at a certain speed to apply for the job... they didn't pay for shite extra. They did provide the computer, monitors etc.

I hate to suggest this, but this is the kind of thing that gets a union started at a workplace…

I don’t think I’d want my company to pay for my home internet to give them a foot in the door towards accessing my internet history.

Umm. They get that from ZScaler and other spyware on your corporate laptop. Put the internet in your wife's name and expense it. They can not search your ISP if it's in someone else's name.

You do know that as part of the home office deduction you can deduct the cost of internet service, right? Along with many other items.

This really only works of you are 1099 or have a home business. You have to be able to itemize. Start some small bs business so that you can get this and other deductions.

These popped up just this year at my employer. Roughly: making above 150k will subsidize those making below 40k

Virtue signaling is so cringe.

My wife is WFH. Her company has never offered to pay for any expenses associated other than providing her a laptop and a monitor.

I’m work from home and it’s the same deal for me. If you don’t want to pay for internet, go back to the office is our policy.

ETA: I do count our internet bill and a portion of our electric bill as tax deductions for work expenses though.

ETA2: I took the standard deduction this year and didn’t realize it’s no longer tax deductible. I’m a TurboTax Deluxe OT poor.
