Our company has never paid for our internet and I don't know of anyone else's who does either.

It's not like you wouldn't pay for the internet if you didn't work for your employer. Do say otherwise is just dumb.

$69 flat in Gonzales for Rev/Eatel. Best internets I ever had. Never went down in 3 years, not even when we lost Power for 7days after Ida.

My company doesn't pay for anyone's internet. Op is being a pussy.

Despite record 2021 profits, my employer has sent out notice that they will no longer pay for the internet of mid and upper-mid level employees. Work from home employees at the aforementioned levels will now have to cover their own internet costs.

Top level employees will still be covered, and they will now be covering the cost of internet services for low to low-mid level employees.

What exactly did they say?

Me either. Why would an employee complain about paying for their own internet when they employer is already saving you a ton on gas, dealing with working in an office, eating out etc.. while you work from home. I would think the cost saved in driving to work for a whole week would pay your internet bill for the month.

I'm guessing because of this

You do know that as part of the home office deduction you can deduct the cost of internet service, right? Along with many other items.

Part of the cost, and only if you're not doing the standard deductible. If you have kids or family, it gets difficult because how do you define business use?

Too many beers down to remember all deductions, so I was incorrect about that. Leaving it up

Not to mention that having internet paid for by someone else is a better deal than deducting the costs of paying for the internet yourself come tax time

Just wait until you get a salary deduction because working from home is a perk.

Normally, you’re a decent poster.

Anyway, when you sign on with a company as part of their hiring package to recruit you. It could include (what you think something trivial as a benefit) of approx $1K/year and they take that from you and leave it for the elites and the non-skilled…

Do you not see how that might peeve some that were duped in the hiring process?

They can’t do that. If you need the internet to work for your employer he can’t make you pay for internet. Lol Wut.

Don’t you need electricity too? Why stop there?

You can attempt to write it off at tax time, but no company is forced to pay for internet for WFH.

Why not both? I kid.

Not true.

There are a number of expenses that can be written off on the Schedule C even if you take the standard deduction. These include:

Home Office (must meet IRS qualifications)
Office Supplies
Employee/Contractor Costs
Advertising
Car Mileage (when used for business)
Travel (air, train or bus fare)
Hotels
Meals/Entertainment (only 50% deductible)
Self-Employment Taxes

“In order to promote equity…”

Some states require companied to reimburse WFH employees for at least part of their internet expense.

I work for a fortune 10 company and “internet” allowance was never covered, get over this stupid shite and count yourself lucky this company was dumb enough to pay anything for this for however long.

I've never had internet paid for by my employer either...that being said, I would be pissed if my employer took a perk away from mid-level employees but not higher ups or lower level employees. How do people not understand this?

Probably lucky they didn’t send you a bill for non WFH related usage by you and your family if they have been paying for it. You had a nice perk for a while that’s now gone away as things return to normal.
