this the same exact test a senior is taking?

I find it hard to believe this is not a 7th grade version. No way they can match someone that's had 25-30 more courses thru the 12th grade.

Given that I took mine at LSU in Allen with a metric shite ton of high school seniors, it's the same.

I don't know why everyone is complaining it costs so much. You have to get a state ID. You then have to register for the test itself. Not much else.

Tell your kid to write in a few colleges she might actually want to attend. You can get acceptance letters if you score decently.

The ACT isn't a test to see how many "facts" you've retained. It's a timed aptitude test.

The math part has algebra, geometry, trig, and some calculus on it. Sorry, but no way is a 12 year old going to do well on a math test with all those on it. It's gotta be a watered down version for Jr. High level.

...no.

In 7th grade, you are taking prealgebra. Concepts. Since all formulas are given to you on the ACT, the math section is more a test of realizing what goes where.

The science section is nothing more than reading graphs. And the english and literature sections are common fricking sense.

Pre algebra is simply solving for x. The ACT I took had you doing a whole hell of a lot more than solving for x.

I have heard that it's watered down though, so maybe you're right. We weren't given formulas.

It's the same test that everyone else is taking.

If your child scores a 30 in any subject or an overall score of 28ish they will receive an invitation to Duke.

They receive a "national" award and qualify to attend Duke's academic summer camp. It comes with a tour of the campus and a couple of lectures with key note speakers.

I took it in 7th grade. Only advantage I can think of is you get an idea for structure and type of questions for when you take it as a junior/senior a few years later.

I took it in 7th grade. Did well.

Didn't mean anything. The invite is what's key. It's an acknowledgement that your kid is intelligent. Nothing more.

But that's enough, right?

Yep. My daughter took the SAT and was one of two at her school invited to Duke for the summer.

My brother took it when he was 12, 2 years ago, made a 25. Probably less than half of my graduating class made a 25.

IIRC, I was given the same opportunity aswell. I think it has to do with access to some academic programs and camps. I didn't do it. It can probably give your daughter a head start academically, but there's probably some question if she wants even more time spent in school or how helpful it will actually be.
