Yes. You really need a 30 second or more exposure period using a 40mm aperture on a 110mm lens to capture that image. An F-Stop of F/2.8 is ideal for that type of situation. Looks like your phone camera caught a little flashing but it is common when using a camera without any kind of lens hood.

That's always been on my bucket list as well. I wouldn't say #1 but it's probably top 10-15. Congrats on the great experience man, seems to be exactly what you wanted judging by your post. Glad it worked out for you.

The Northern Lights have always been something that I wanted to see too. I had a chance while I was in Estonia earlier this year, but I was chosen to lead the first TDY out of there, so this is what I got to miss...
