cannabis is still classified with heroin.

Because neither is recognized to have a valid medical use, at least not by the feds. Classification doesn't have much to do with how "bad" something is. There are plenty of substances that are Schedule II because they have valid medical use but are very nasty if you get hooked.

Why?

It's certainly something valid and worth digging into to figure out why killing a white person seems to net much worse sentences.

Because most white on black killing seems to be premeditated or brutally opportunistic, with targets picked because they seemed particularly "ripe" or unlikely to fight back. This attacks the fabric of society much more than a couple of gangbangers who shoot at each other in drivebys in what is essentially gang war, thus the dead are simply casualties and their unintended targets collateral damage.

Plus, we're desensitized to it, since they kill each other so often. So it doesn't register as viscerally as when they murder an elderly couple in their home or shoot a father of 3 to death for 43 bucks and a cell phone.

Can you comprehend that?

Does getting the death penalty even matter any more? It's not like we are funding capital punishment, we've found a way to abolish the death penalty without having to make any politicians look weak on crime.

A little Googling shows that the most recent execution in LA was in 2010. There have been only five in the last twenty years. The majority of executions since 1976 took place in the mid-80's.

So this study doesn't really have much relevance today.

Not to mention some people executed have later been proven innocent with updated technology. Some percentage I can't recall

Shouldn't people in Louisiana be more concerned that 15,000 blacks were killed in the same time frame that 5,500 whites were killed? That would be more worrisome to me if I was living there.

No, we should be concerned that there were 20,942 victims. Race shouldn't be a factor.

Hurr durr, ONE murder is too many. The point, I believe is that three times as many AA murder deaths from a minority of the populace indicates serious negative issues within that sub-group.

I agree with you. I'm just saying if I'm going to worry about an injustice it would be that almost 10,000 more blacks were killed instead of 200 people getting the death penalty.

Baker plus argument over music lead one to believe they were black.

Murder-suicide leads one to believe they were white.

Not sure which way to go with this one, folks. YOU MAKE THE CALL!

So out of 20,942 murders, only 38 perpetrators were executed?

And I'm assuming this is only including murder, not manslaughter charges?

That's over 550 murders per execution.
