Johnny's Sweep the Kitchen is as good as it gets, and yes I do love me some Gatti's

Johnny's, Gattis, Fleur de lis, Dominos, Whole Foods, Cici's, I'll eat it all. I'll even eat a $5 Little Caesars Hot N Ready from time to time. Only thing I won't eat again is that Pastime garbage. I don't even think they make their crust or sauce - it's some prepackaged Sysco crap. But seriously, if you haven't tried LIT yet, check it out -- place is legit.

This is how shitty BR is. Their best pizza in town is Mr. fricking Ghattis.

Not surprised

There are quite a few places I'd rate ahead of Gattis:

Grimaldis
Lit
Pizza Roma
Diguilios
Gino's
Red Zeppelin
Whole Foods

Just to name a few. I'd even put places like Mellow Mushroom and Johnny's and FDL ahead of Gattis. Gattis is definitely serviceable though.

Fleur De Lis is overpriced and small
Gattis is good if you are a College Frick Boy

Whatever happened to Deanos? I think that's what it was called. I used to destroy the muffuletta pizza at least 3 times a week after Katrina. Best pizza I've ever had. Love me some Johnny's and Smittys nowadays.

Deanos went out of business several years ago. They still have it in Lafayette, though.

While I did eat there in college, this can't be true. But if it is, it's a sad testimonial to the BR food scene.

Yeah I would eat Gattis as a student, but I must say as far as buffet pizza I preferred cicis.

I still crave Fleur de Lis veggie pizza with shrimp years after leaving BR. Otherwise Mellow was just fine for me. BR pizza isn't exactly worth writing home about.

See, I like Fleur de lis because it's a thin, soft, nearly non-existant crust. However, the greasyness always messes with my stomach, so THE wife and I typically go with Rotolo's instead. She's a big fan of their BBQ Chicken Pizza, the Joe Horn.

Johnny's is just ok.

Pasttime is the worst, but their Calzones are awesome.

I think my favorite place in BR is probably Mellow.

I like your style (and your avatar, my goodness!).

I think that variability in pizza styles is a good thing, and why it's impossible to truly compare. It's like comparing sandwiches and demanding that others agree with you that a ham and cheese is a better sandwich than a BLT. Both are potentially good or bad, and furthermore, tastes vary.

I like Fleur de Lis because they are different. It's not my favorite, if I had to pick a favorite, but I can and do enjoy eating their pizza pie.

Same with Mr. Gatti's.

Among the other superchains, it makes a BIG difference if the dough for your crust has gotten old or is relatively fresh before they cook it, and just generally, these pizzas are economy pizzas. The ingredients just are too mass produced to really compete with better boutique pizza restaurants.

I do like the brick oven pizzas, but I'm sort of tired of that charry taste on the crust when it burns a bit. I've been getting that flavor to much lately.

I am kinda longing for a deep dish pan pizza with extra buttery crust and mile high toppings. Any suggestions for a good pie of that type in BR or NO?

Green olives are the best ! Try a Hawaiian with the green olives, it's the perfect blend of sweet and salty !

Gatti's was founded in Stephenville, Texas and is a chain. This nicely explains why Baton Rouge loves it. Also, it's crap right next to Fleur de Lis and Pastime.

If someone walked into Baton Rouge, and opened a chain restaurant called "Bowl Full of shite" and literally served bowls of shite, you people born here would make it millions.

Baton Rouge is a cesspool when it comes to taste.
