I will start working at Xavier this Fall. I appreciate tips and suggestions on where to rent an apartment. My wife and I have two kids (3 and 1). Thanks in advance.

Theres a spot next to the aquarium that just became vacant as of this morning/last night.

In all seriousness I'd stay out of the city to be honest. Look at Metairie, etc.

You should be able to find a nice place around City Park

Avoid New Orleans and the north side of the lake like the plague. New Orleans is run by a pandering wimp and St. Tammany Parish is full.

Look around in Gentilly/Lakeview areas, or some areas of Metairie.

Wherever you are considering, check out the crime maps of NOLA which are very good indications of where you want to live.

Gentilly Terrace would be a good affordable option. Lots of young families moving there

Look in these areas:

1. Warrington Drive / Robert E. Lee Blvd
2. Michoud
3. Cleveland Avenue / S. Johnson Street
4. St Bernard Street / Buchanan Avenue
5. Port Street / Urquhart Street

You'll fit right in

Just remember...you can live in the "safest" area of new orleans and always get carjacked or robbed when leaving your home. It's true. At least in Baton Rouge the criminals stay in NBR. Not so in Nola. You're pretty much a target anywhere you go.

Damn, the responses with these kind of questions keep getting worse and worse.

Nola is busting at the seams and can't build apartments and condos fast enough to keep up with demand, but "you are going to die". LOL

Uptown and the CBD/Warehouse district will probably be much pricier than you are looking for.

I would look in mid city, especially near city park as well as Gentilly.

I would look at renting an apartment in Old Metairie or maybe a house in Lakewood South. Both are very convenient to get to Xavier and safe areas.
