I'd say don't move to the burbs.

But I have a FB friend that lives Clarendon (sp?) and she seems to love it

I'd go Georgetown

Working in Lorton. Rent looking in the $800 to $1000 range with roommates. I could afford a 1br, but I don't feel like paying $1500+

You'd better be looking around where you work. You aren't sniffing Arlington for that type of change.

I've found a decent spot in Arlington with a roomate for $850. Just wanted the boards opinion, since DC gets brought up from time to time.

Lorton would seem like a pain in the arse to go to and from D.C. for. My office is in the west end (m st) but I only go there a dozen times a year. Just watching traffic is painful.

That's my only concern, the traffic and commute. I've heard living in Arlington/Alexandria is best for young people. I've also heard that traffic is bad, but I'd be commuting out of DC in the morning, and into DC at night...going against traffic if you will.

Assuming you're at NGA? If so Arington/Alexandria isn't bad (30 mins or so without traffic). Commuting in and out of DC to Lorton is going to be a cluster even going against traffic.

Is there a reason why you wouldn't want to live in Lorton? Every other option has you paying higher rent to commute, unless you move even further south of DC.

I'd try to find something between Lorton and Springfield, that way you're close to the Metro stop, which is handy when you want to do anything in D.C.

Hope you have a car alarm, packing, and a little karate training. Bad ninjas up there.

I don't have a reason against Lorton, other than according to the guys at the office if your single you would probably want to live in Arlington or Alexandria. My understanding is that Lorton is kinda boring, and not the best area. This why I'm asking you guys for your opinion.

I live in NOLA, seriously doubt D.C. is worse.

Lorton is the way out there burbs and parts of Springfield (burb next door) can be shady. There is a really nice public golf course down there if you're into that.

I wouldn't live down there if you're single FWIW.

I do play golf, but not enough to convince me to live there. What's your guess at a commute from Arlington/Alexandria to Lorton?
