Gonna be moving to a new house 3 miles away from our current house in late June. Trying to schedule both closings on the same day if possible.
What was your best experience moving and what strategies would you recommend?
Struggling to wrap my mind around when to get out of current house.
Edit: totally fine with paying someone to load and unload stuff into a pod or moving truck.

Forget it. It will not end smoothly. I guarantee it.

Make damn sure your realtor throws in a “you have until X:00 time to be out of your house” deal into the closing contract. That way you’re not rushed moving your shite out of your old home. I learned that the hard way when I closed on both homes the same day. My purchase was contingent on me selling my other home in order to use the proceeds for the down payment.

Use a pod or two. Pick it up and they will hold for you until move in.

Hire movers.
I’ll never move again without hiring movers.

We weren't moving same day, but if you are doing that, have movers come get your stuff that morning, closing, closing, movers at new place in the afternoon.

you don't need the funds from closing a in order to close on b?

We pretty much moved all the small stuff ourselves and help from friends and had the big stuff, furniture/beds etc, by a local moving company. Group of guys called Acme movers. It was basically 5 dudes and what appeared to be an old U-Haul truck.
They were awesome, didn't break anything and didn't put any holes in the walls hauling shite upstairs. Wound up tipping them an extra 25 apiece and bought them pizza and beers afterwards.
Best money spent.
Side note: while moving, I didn't realize how much shite my wife and I actually had...

Whatever movers charge is not too much. That shite is horrible. Pay them to move everything

Hey bud. Closing on old house first then new house second. Title company handles all that bruh.

Box up all the little shite ahead of time and use the opportunity to declutter your life.
Hire someone to come pick up all the boxes/furniture in the morning and unload it into the new place in the evening.
I moved twice in a 4 month span in 2019, the movers were worth every penny.

My suggestion is to move out of Louisiana.

Start here, throw out all the BS crap that you have stuffed in closets and the attic that you know you won't touch ever again. And, while you are at it, you are never going to fit in those clothes from college again, move on from them
As another poster mentioned, get a moving company that can empty your current home in the morning and deliver everything to the new home in the afternoon. This is a common occurrence, so they will be able to figure out logistics.
Anything that is valuable, irreplaceable, or fragile; I would move myself.

Moving always takes longer than you think it will. Dont wait until the last minute. give yourself a few days to complete the move

Burn your current house to the ground including everything in it. Claim insurance money. Buy all new stuff for the new house.

closing on 2 homes and moving same day
Yeah.
That's not happening.
As others have stated, get PODs or similar to store shite for up to a few days.

Just moved three weeks ago. Hired a moving company to pack everything and unload it. Best 9k I ever spent. Of course I moved half way across the country.

A uhaul rental truck for a couple of days is cheaper than Pods. Use Uhaul as a POD if have a day or two with no where to go

Did it years back, closings at the same time, have the movers load your truck before you goto the closing, then go directly from the closing to the new place. It sucks that day but then it’s over
