I agree, would you be willing to concede that the eye can't tell you whether or not a thin person is healthy or not

Yes.

But I can tell you whether a fat person is healthy or not.

Overweight? Yes. Fat and unhealthy? No. Although I can't fathom why some random guy would want to weigh 220 lbs @ 6 ft.

Thank you for proving my point that BMI does not apply anecdoctally.

so you've been to a lot of countries where the standard of living is exceptionally below ours...you're not listening. the painting of a skinny and healthy world versus the fatty fat fat united states is just so fricking stupid.

and the idea that skinny=healthy is just absurd.

We're arguing different things.

I think is ridiculous that you place the blame of obesity in America on our prosperity. Its lazy to say that just because we can be fat, we are fat. Its a systemic cultural failure. We value our time more than health. We'd rather eat fast food than go to the healthy aisle of the supermarket or farmers market and cook dinner.

The other reason its absurd is because there are more obese countries that have economies in terrible shape and huge unemployment rates. They too have the same systemic cultural failures as the US. I never said the US was the only fat country, that must be something you assumed.

depends...my grandmother is 87 and has the same mental faculties she had when I was born...it's incredible really. Her health is amazing...she's been pudgy to fat her entire life

And my grandmother smoked 2 packs a day for most of her life and was the picture of health well into her 80s.

There are exceptions to every rule.

FWIW, I'm 6'2" 190 and I need to lose 10 lbs. Holiday food and laziness got me this winter.

It took quite awhile and dedication. I have been at this weight for approx 4-5 years now so Im used to it. In high school I was around 170 lbs but in much better shape as far as PT metrics. Ive noticed that even though Im physically alot stronger than high school (10 years ago ) I cant do nearly as many pullups/situps/run as fast despite only adding 2" to my waist. I guess it's because of my BMI

French, Swiss, and Italians seem to carry much healthier weights FWIW.

And 2 of those countries have some of the best damn food you'll ever eat.

Great, now I want Italian food.
