Good question. The program I'm thinking about is kinda pricey. A little more expensive than the Catholic education I received. I'm thinking if it gives her a solid foundation, it's worth it.

Mine wasn't cheap. It cost what a Catholic HS tuition is. But they had two teachers, both had Master +30 with 12 children in the class.

Not sure what they get paid but they are very talented and have to keep up their certification much more often than other teachers from my understanding so I assume they make good money.

You would think this is true, but at least in EBR the salary schedule is the same. Hell, my wife has a Master's and maybe makes 1% more.

I've been looking to move my would be 2 year old in september to a better preschool.
I've looked into Montessori, KinderCare and Kids Count.
I'm leaning towards Kids Count.
I ruled out Montessori b/c i didn't like the look of the curriculum and the hours.
I've heard good and bad things about KinderCare.
Thy are all ridiculously expensive. $700-$800 month.

Haven't heard anything about Kids Count, but it looks good and we are scheduling a visit there.
Oldest is starting Our Lady of Mercy so we are looking for a daycare nearby for the youngen.

My son attended a Montessori school from age 3 thru second grade. Was a great early education. Try to become familiar with what The Montessori Method is and make sure the school is truly one that uses those methods, otherwise you may waste your money.

do montesorri school teachers get paid better? it sounds like they have to do more work, make lesson plans for each individual student
They probably have fewer students. Not to mention HOW much individualized ed occurs at pre-k and K.

My two boys have both attended Montessori school and we are very happy with the results. The oldest is 7 and in second grade flourishing in a public school. The youngest is 4 in his second year and surprises us every day with things he knows.

Hello all,

My wife recently became a guardian to her niece, who is almost 4. I was thinking about putting her in a local Montessori program. Anyone here have kids in similar programs. Likes/dislikes? The local school here seems to have a decent reputation and isn't that badly priced.
I have some issues with the theoretical foundations (Constructivistic) because the empirical results indicate that it is not the best method overall, in terms of academic achievement. Although, "discovery" type learning can be useful, it's most effective when it is used to supplement the teacher's direct instruction and feedback, not the other way around (some advocate for minimal teacher feedback altogether). For the pre-k level, though, this may not be that important.

In addition, I would bet that some school or teachers, employ a more reasonable approach to discovery learning (i.e., as a support; still values direct instruction and corrective feedback) so it may just be very school specific.
