Almost a third of the city state's population now classify as millionaires, up 6% compared to two years ago, according to a new survey.

New York is the only non-European city that made it into the top five globally. With one in 21 New Yorkers classified as millionaires, the city comes in fourth based on the number of millionaires as percentage of the overall population.

London has moved up one spot in the ranks to fifth overall with one in 29 inhabitants millionaires.

That's pretty incredible, cost of living be damned.

It is.

With that said, $1 million doesn't go nearly as far in places like NYC as it does elsewhere.

It would be interesting to see how cost of living, to include local taxation, factors in.

It's a quaint place. Pettifogger, Pilot, and myself have properties there. A few ships as well.

I get all that, but if you've got a net worth of 1MM$, you can move it with you to somewhere it goes much further.

Truth.

Also, people with a net worth north of $1 million tend to have skilled CPAs to advise them on tax considerations.

Why did I let my Broker talk me in to a grey Yacht? Sticks out like a sore thumb.

Was just there two weeks ago. Minimum balance to open a bank account is 40k. Citizenship can only be passed by parentage. Even if you are born there, no go if your parents aren't citizens. Overall it was meh.

Net worth of $1MM is not really that much.

How much is your house worth? Any rental property? Investments? Retirement/401k accounts?

$1MM is barely retirement money. Certainly not in New York City.

A net worth of $1M is the same regardless of where you live. It isn't income. It is portable.

That being said, whether or not it is enough to live on depends on your age.
