Those of you saying she wants easy money. That's not what is said in the article, not is that how these suits usually work. The remedy sought is not compensation. It's for the school board to cease unconstitutional activity.

The only religion that should be taught during school hours, is a religious studies class as a high school elective. Something that teaches about all the major religions. But this isn't that. It's a bible study class during school hours. Are they paying the teacher's salary during that time, or just funding the study materials and books?

Right. The school district will have to cover her lawyer's fees and cease offering these classes. The mom isn't going to get a dime, that isn't how school-related suits like this work.

I am not religious at all but this is some pussy shite.
Everyone needs to realize the world doesn't revolve around them. We are all just another turd in the bowl.
If it was one of my children I would tell them to be respectful and bow the head like everyone else.

It is too bad that the world is so full of fundamentalist, herd instinct following neanderthals that constantly try to shove their fricked up beliefs onto everyone else.

Even though the class is "voluntary" I wonder just how easy it is for her daughter to tell these backwoods folks that she doesn't want to attend their indoctrination sessions. That's why there should never be religious instruction during school time. It's never "voluntary."

I don't pass my beliefs onto my son. He will make his own mind up one day but we deal with this at the ball fields constantly. Some of the most ignorant and hypocritical people you could meet but when they pray I take the hat off and bow. I couldn't imagine if I said that I was going to pass.

If it is a public school they shouldn't be happening. Voluntary or not.
That's extracurricular stuff, don't do it on school time.

After that I couldn't care.

You say that but it says it has been going on for 75 years. So something tells its not as cut and dry as you make it sound.

I think it should be allowed especially if voluntary... promotes positive things and if parents do their job it won't be an issue.

Teresa Russell, another county schools official, told the Charleston Gazette-Mail that the Bible courses are voluntary, financed by a nonprofit group and that the system's 19 elementary and middle schools provide alternative courses at the same time.

shouldn't the bible courses be the alternative? and not the other way around.

hope the school gets fricked

Shouldn't be in schools, voluntary or not. If they want to learn nonsense they can do it at church.

As long as you're in favor of getting rid of science and all their unproven theories as well.

The real irony here is that public education was started in this country to make it easier for kids to read and learn how to interpret the Bible.

And that's exactly why this is a bad idea. One of the reasons anyway.

Yep. I even lost friends in college when I finally decided to be honest with myself and everyone else that Christianity was something completely unbelievable to me.

I can only imagine in the South the pressure the non believing kids must feel to conform especially if the teachers are part of it. I know several adults in education who would look down upon kids who didn't volunteer. They may not even know it, but psychologically and involuntarily they will favor the student who claims belief vs the one who does not.

1. Please define scientific theory

2. Please list why the theories you speak of are unproven.

Do those and I'll take you seriously. If not, you're just a lazy a-hole who doesn't know nor care to find out that he's completely full of shite.

The earth is not flat buddy. No matter how much you protest science saying that it isn't, it is never going to be flat.
