Minor auto body work question...

During those bad storms we had in BR a few weeks back, some strong winds knocked over my son’s basketball goal onto the hood of my truck.
The damage isn’t major but it’s certainly noticeable to me. There are a few scratches of varying depth and length and two oblong dents.
I’d normally just ignore something like this but I’ve only had this vehicle for a few months, so I’d like for it to not be a dinged up mess just yet.
Anybody got any experience getting minor body work on their vehicle here in BR? Is it worth it? Is it prohibitively expensive if you aren’t going through insurance?
I assume it probably is, but I have zero experience in this type of thing.
Any info is appreciated.

Can't say without seeing the damage but I would bet that if you pay it yourself, you end up cheaper in the long run as opposed to filing a claim. What year/model of truck?

Just paid cash for a repair to my wife's car, I bet it was half of what it would have been through insurance co.

I'm definitely looking to go out of pocket with this. I was in an accident in December that totaled out my previous vehicle (my fault), so I'm going to avoid filing claims for the next few years.

Body shops these days will just order and paint a new panel if the dents can't be popped out. No one bothers with actual body work anymore. Going out of pocket will be cheaper.

I went to the same body shop my ins claims have always gone through (local Chevy dealer). Guy has always done good work. The whole rear panel and sliding door were smashed good, told him I was paying cash and would prefer to just pop, hammer, smooth and paint vs replacing whole sections of the vehicle. He said no problem his guy could do a great job, and he did.

If you can find some matching paint at an auto parts store, buy some sandpaper, filler and primer at Wal-mart and do it yourself. Probably cost less than $40. Of course an orbital sander would make the job a lot easier, but you can sand by hand.

Find highly recommended shop in your area and bring it there.
DIY and it's gonna look like a bear's butt sewed up with barbed wire.
Let professional work on a hood.

I would take it to 3 shops for 3 quotes, if the dealer has a body shop let them be one of the 3
Tell them all its a cash deal with no insurance
I got 2 bids and was shocked when they were only $50 different, each put different time on different things like prep vs paint but the totals were almost identical

I've seen my share bear's butt/ barbed wire jobs. Even seen some guys pull frame damage with an old tree and a winch.

Document the damage with a lot of photos. When you go to sell the truck it will show up on Carfax as wreck damage or hood Aids, lowering the value. You will be able to show a potential buyer how minor the damage actually was.

That's the advantage to paying out of pocket. If he doesn't claim it on insurance, it will never show up on a CarFax.
