So my son thinks he has free delivery because he got a deal that says for like $ 90 a year you get free delivery. Then he orders Starbucks ....a venti vanilla moch iced coffee and a blueberry scone.
I asked him how much.....he says about 15.00 .I said, " yeah you may have paid way too much for your coffee and pastry" he protests and says no and that we aren't paying 1990's prices anymore and this is what that costs at Starbucks.
So one day we are out and I stop at Starbucks on purpose and I order the same thing he did on doordash. I paid about 8.00 I look at him and said, " because I'm older than you I know how to get half off without asking for half off"
I asked him how much.....he says about 15.00 .I said, " yeah you may have paid way too much for your coffee and pastry" he protests and says no and that we aren't paying 1990's prices anymore and this is what that costs at Starbucks.

Can’t speak for door dash etc, because I love so far in the middle of nowhere that no one delivers here, but I use an app to order Longhorns to go sometimes, works well, faster than calling. I’m Gen X though.

Depends. for delivery on most things it's goat. Especially when it's a well programmed app with checkable boxes like extra dressing, no beans double rice for Mexican etc. Never had an issue.
Now.....today for lunch wanted to pick up a patty melt from a local place....called that in with a phone.
Sometimes an app is cumbersome and annoying..sometimes it really is the way to go

Except his friends all think the same way......they think they are paying reasonable prices.....they don't go in to the places anymore.....if they have money they spend either on Amazon crap or doordash.

Ordered pizzas last night - online it was $45. I called the place and got the exact same thing for $30.

If you mean the actual pizza place's website (Papa Johns, etc.), you have to go to the specials/deals section to get the special pricing. When you called, the worker probably was nice enough to apply whatever specials worked for what you ordered. They aren't selling their food for more on their own website/app than they are in store.
You've had to specifically request specials/order from the specials menu at pizza places ever since I was a child in the 90s. Otherwise, you were getting charged full price which is expensive.
Now if you are talking about ordering from a third party service like DoorDash, Waitr, etc. then yes it is higher priced to order through them.

Ordering online is fast, easy, and you cut out 1/2 of the possible mess ups on orders. I love ordering online on my way home, stop and I pick it up since it’s already made if not will be done within 2 minutes and then take it home. Plus I don’t have to deal with other people letting their kids run wild in a restaurant because they just can’t control their kids

I would up getting a Platinum card a couple months back and I just never use Uber but I get a $15 Uber credit each month that I want to use. Found out I can order lunch on Uber eats, still pick it up so I don’t have to pay the delivery fees and wait for an hour for a cold, shitty lunch and still use the credit.
