Instead of by phone… and by phone I mean telephone… where you actually speak to a human at the restaurant.

There must be some benefit to ordering on-line, I just don’t see it.

This morning, I saw that Door Dash had delivered a bag of food and a juice to the abandoned house next to my work place. It’s been sitting there for three days.

I’ve seen this happen many times and it really boggles my mind. The thought that I would order food, give inadequate directions, pay good money, and expect it to be dropped off on the ground by a stranger who has already been tipped in advance who doesn’t know my location except for my generic address, and then hope that it’s not tampered with as it sits there for God knows how long on a busy street, and then I would feel safe to eat it is just unthinkable to me.

I don't have to repeat myself 10x to a barely literate person on the phone? Seems obvious enough.

I cant stand having to talk to someone. I am an older millenial, but I have passed on ordering from a restaurant if I have to call. It's 2022, no need to take my order on the phone. Let me order online and pick it up, much easier and better record of what I ordered.

I hate to sound like an old person, but yeah.. I don't get this. I like to talk to someone when I am ordering food.

With that said, I do use the online order feature when ordering from Couyon's food truck and that does go pretty smooth so..

I fricking hate the food delivery market now. Kids just order at will. How about let's order a dozen donuts and pay a $20 delivery fee. I've had to disconnect my credit card from all of those services.

Your order is less likely to get lost in translation when you order it with an app or online.

OP has clearly never used Doordash.

You can track the driver from restaurant to your door. You have the ability to call and text the driver. You get like 3 separate notifications when the order has been dropped off.

Listen, whatever you do Jimbeaux, don't sign up for those "pay online" gimmicks. They try and tell you paying your bills with a computer over the World Wide Web is convenient, but it's a scam.

You don’t have to actually

speak to a human at the restaurant.

Do you text someone instead of calling? That exact reason why.

If I'm sitting at my desk it's quicker to order and pay online than it is to call in then wait and pay at the restaurant. Let's say I'm ordering from Firehouse Subs. It takes me about 30 seconds to order/pay and then when I show up at the restaurant they have my food waiting for me and I get to bypass the line.

I’ll be off your lawn shortly.

I’m kidding, I’d rather do it by telephone also.

It still baffles me that people will pay (in some cases) double the price for food to be delivered. And even if you pick it up, those services like DoorDash have marked up prices vs just calling the restaurant.

This just tells me the vermin situation in the city may not be as bad as I feared.

I have ordered online for pickup once or twice. Not having to talk to a person who barely speaks English is a plus.
