Take a bath if you stink. Ever get a whiff of another dude's cologne when they walk by? Nasty, imho.

Dudes I work with wear cologne and it doesn't bother me at all. Granted, they're grown professionals wearing reasonable office cologne, not stuff intended to pick up girls at the office.

Cologne is supposed to be used sparingly and should only be smelled when really, really close.

I got no problems with it, really. But less is more, imv.
In the old days, smoke would overwhelm everything else, in bars for example. Cologne just made it worse. It might make more sense to use a little spray these days.

There are different colognes for differents occasions. The ones that are overpowering and offensive at the gym or in the office are probably the ones designed for a night out.
Pair the right scent with the right occasions, and in the right quantity, and you're fine.
I don't go out much so I don't have any "colognes" any more. But I do have several different aftershaves that I like, for after I shave.
Pinaud Clubman
Florida Water
Pinaud Bay Rum
Baxter of California
As you can see, none of them come close to the price of the fancy popular colgnes. But these are the products men have been using as aftershave for many many years.
My wife loves them and they are subtle so your gym buddy won't be offended.
Pair the right scent with the right occasions, and in the right quantity, and you're fine.

Finally, someone who gets it. I'm almost exclusively Bay Rum. Cologne is for high schoolers and Guido's.
