Playing pickup basketball. Planted foot to jump and heard something pop. I can walk but I cannot straighten my knee out or it will buckle. What did I tear?

That poor ACL has been pushed to its limit for far too long

You can walk with a torn acl, but it will come loose of you start to run or cut.

You know it sounds to me like this might be a torn acl.

But I'm not sure.

I'm gonna have to call in an expert in torn acls to take a look.

But right now I'd say go see a doctor. Best I can do man.

Sounds exactly what happened when I tore my ACL in half years ago. If it is the ACL, expect your knee to swell to double it's size soon

ACL. Go see an orthopedic next week.

I could walk fine after, but the pop and buckling are pretty evident.

Like others have said, sounds like a ligament injury.

Go get an MRI.

What can the ER do and what will they do? Only reason I would go tonight is to be told if it's torn or not. Not a lot of pain. Will they do scan if I ask?

don't go to the ER for that

call an orthopedic in the morning to set up an appt

ETA: unless you are experiencing just teeth-gritting pain, the only thing the ER is gonna do is eye-roll you and waste your time

ETA2: prob best to call GP first because I am sure your insurance will require a referral

ACL sounds like or some other ligamentous/tendinous issue

go see GP to confirm or go to Ortho for expedited care

This is why squats and dead lifts are so critical. You do a bunch of curls for the girls and then pop your knee out
