Auburn's online Masters of Accountancy is $28,000 for ONE year. Who do they think they are, Vandy? (Vandy's on campus is of course $56,000 or something ridiculous for one year).

I'd love to go to Vandy but I think I'm headed back to MSU next fall for my Macc.

MBA may get your foot in the door but that is about the extent. I have one and so do a bunch of my friends. It will help distinguish you from other potential hires if all things else considered equal. I work for a very large national firm and have hired lots of people. Not once have we looked at a resume and said that this guy is a hire because of an MBA.

Also, I've promoted a ton of people and we never look at the education credentials. We always look to see what a person has done for our firm. In the real world performance heavily outweighs academic credentials.

Great logic. I can tell that MBA has really come through for you.

I didn't say it would hurt him. I said that I have not found it very helpful. I also went to an SEC school. Big fricking shite.

If you got your MBA from an SEC school and it hasn't been helpful, its your own fault. Your resume either sucks otherwise, you're a terrible interviewer, or you're applying for jobs you don't have the experience to get.

This is why you get it.

At my company, it literally opens a whole new level of job openings on our internal application website.

Their MBA isn't bad at all relative to competitors. I think my GMAT and work experience will get me some free stuff too.

I've been emailing their dean and he seems like a great guy. Probably going to apply here pretty soon for the Spring semester. Also just found out a VP in the department I'm trying to switch to has an Auburn MBA.

Tell you what though, its going to fricking suck writing a check out to Auburn each semester

That's short sided on your company's part. Why exclude someone who may be perfect for the job just because he doesn't have an MBA?

I've been with the same company for 18 years who actually paid for the MBA. The company has promoted me multiple times for working hard and making them money. I attribute my success to this and not my 4.0 in an SEC MBA program.

As a CM grad working for one of the big EPC firms, please do not waste time with a MSCM.

Either get an MBA if you want to move into executive level (although without PM experience this would take time/connections) or risk management.

Or get in with a GC/CM firm and start working on CCM certification. Will most 100x more valuable to you and your employer than a MSCM.
