How did you get...

quote:

someone who disrespected her when he walked out on her while she was speaking.

From...

quote:

someone got up to go to the back.

Blame white men much?

My god you people are pathetic, and that's an understatement.

Say RIP and GTFO.

You don't have to like the woman but have some damn respect.

My favorite Maya Angelou quote
"I am serious, so I laugh a lot. You need to laugh. You don't laugh enough. I don't trust anyone who doesn't laugh."

She really disliked white people. I listened to her speak once when someone got up to go to the back. She bashed that person like I've never seen anyone bashed.

did she say racist remarks towards them...or was it just a general bashing and it just happened to be that the person was white?

Stop making disingenuous arguments. Saying that being black and female helped one person doesn't mean it'll help everyone. Not ever black politician will become President.

I've seen you post other stuff that makes sense, stop scraping the barrel with arguments you don't even buy into.

Oprah is smart. Oprah connects with women. But to deny that there was a certain appeal for women in celebrating a black woman is dumb. It was unique and probably made them feel progressive. Ditto for Obama in 2008. It doesn't mean they aren't talented or even that they don't deserve to be there.

They just went to the back. She let them have it too. She thought that everyone should shut up, sit there and just soak it all in. 80% of the students there were getting extra credit for being there. And the guy was just moving. he wasn't leaving.

According to wiki she was a pro before becoming a poet and a writer. I never knew that.

Why? I mean, I don't really care either way, but why should someone "have respect" just because someone died?

A lot of her writing was about her sexual liberty. It was a major theme of hers

It's called being a mature adult.

You're trying too hard.

This is an internet message board based around LSU athletics. Nobody on here has likely ever met MA, and 95% of the posters here probably couldnt' give less of a shite about her work.

Does typing out "RIP" on a keyboard make one more of a mature adult than not typing that?

She was widely considered to be an American literary icon. Whether you like your subject matter (women's lib, race, Southern life) or not. So it's natural for there to be an outpouring of goodwill.
