Instead of making a new hero who is interesting that happens to be gay, Marvel craters to pressure and changes an existing one.

How about, I don't give a shite if Iceman sucks dick, I want to see fight scenes where dudes shite lasers, fly, have super human strength, etc., not some preachy bullshite about Iceman's coming to grips with his corn holin'.

This is marketing by marvel. my SIL works for marvel, well disney but marvel brand. They have the 10-16 year old male market sewn up and are trying to broaden their base to include females which care way more about shite than boys do.
the boys probably skip the love parts anyway.

yeah, I'm aware, but Northstar has never been important. IceMan isn't much better, but his status as an First Class member is what makes this significant.
Bobby Drake has hooked up a good bit in the comics, so to write him as always being gay (and deeply closeted) is insulting to the character. He's a superhero, courage is implied. Especially in a group discriminated against in the Marvel Universe, being gay isn't as bad as being a mutant....also isn't it weird that they didn't write him as bisexual, like Marvel's Hercules, Wolverine's son Daken, Mystique or even Gambit....?
