Well yeah, money talks, but that doesn't mean it won't be a difficult transition for society as a whole to move from traditional gender roles to a more egalitarian perception of women in the work place, particularly in male dominated professions like medicine, law, and engineering. And she'll have to deal with that for her whole career because even the young male senior associates and partners in her firm, the guys who are in their thirties, are traditionalists, even if they don't recognize it and think they are very open-minded.
In essence, before her issues with the workplace will resolve, a resounding societal shift will have to occur (and like you pointed out, women now make up more law students than men, so it's definitely coming in the legal sector--they can't all take in house positions) which is understandably frustrating for her.
And it gets old hearing about it, but now here I am doing the same shite, regurgitating the same gripes she has... She's trained me well...

In house
Look, even long time litigators are looking for a way out. The profession has an excess of lawyers, making it harder to find a niche, especially for noobs, male or female. Older lawyers work longer, insurance companies go in house or cut back. It's a tough market right now.
Good luck to your wife. I'd hate to be starting out right now.
