How many of you have a savings or checking account that your significant other doesn't know about? Why do you have it? I'll hang up and listen.

I don't. That's a fricking stupid notion.

Wife and I have separate accounts and it has never been an issue.

The ex did. Or so she thought it was secret. Used that shite against her, too.

Hide that in your impending divorce in a community property state. Then your ex will be able to put their name on it

Our main account is the secret one. My wife is happy to leave all the finances to me. She never looks at any statement. She's lucky I'm so honest... usually.

I don't, never have...toward what end?

why would I have a secret account? She'll get half no matter what in this state. Plus, we don't mess with each other over money. Pretty much spend what we each want.

"Significant Other": good plan
"Spouse": always ends badly

I deposited 200.00 worth of bitcoin in a overseas bank 4 years ago. I need to check on it.

Not an account to hide money in case of a divorce.
I'm talking about a happily married man having an account only he knows about. Could be for extra savings. Maybe the wife is a spending addict. Maybe it's used to make dumb investments. Maybe it funds a hobby. Not talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars here.

I don't have to because the wife doesn't want to handle anything other than credit cards.
I handle the checking and savings account along with paying bills.
This cuts both ways because she doesn't know how much money we have and I have to occasionally shite on her parade and say "we're cash-poor, stop fricking spending."

We have separate spending accounts and a joint savings and checking. That works out best for us.

well, mine tried to claim that she had no money, yet moved money into a very little used (as in maybe two or three times in 10 years) she didn't remember that was I added on to when we got married 10 years ago.
A friend had warned me that may happen when she started complaining about lack of money. So, I went into the account and set up all of the alerts to let me know when money was added/withdran, etc. There was more than a nice sum. My lawyer had a field day with that...

Only people with something to hide would do that. I'm on my 2nd marriage. Kinda like a business venture financially. All funds are separate except for a joint checking account for bills.

Be better at hiding.
I have a safety deposit box under my cousin's name at a small bank 60 miles away. It isn't hidden from the wife so much as it is hidden from everyone.
I "borrowed" his wallet one day. Gave him $100 bucks for the trouble. We look enough alike that no one at the bank questioned a thing.
Only thing in it is jewelry, a decent amount of Sing $, cash, a mastercard, a copy of my passport, and a gun.
I started it as a joke originally.
Now it's known as my South America box. Anything ever happens, I'm gone.
