"We just felt like we did the right thing by getting married before we had kids," he said. "Normally, you think it's the other way around. We were just young and, I guess you could say, in love with each other. I owed her that. She's the real deal."
Rico Gathers - former Riverside Academy and now Baylor Basketball - quote
Normally...part grabbed me. I believe that family unit without high level of commitment is like a house built on sand.

Wait, what? Normally, one would think it's correct for people to have kids before they get married?
I hope I'm misunderstanding what he's saying. Otherwise, this is a pretty clear indication of the deterioration of the nuclear family, which is not a good thing.

I saw a stat that there are no more "married women having babies" than in 1960. Rise of single mothers, especially Hispanics.
I was meeting with a professional demographic scientist for work.

Seems like a very flawed premise to make marriage your level of commitment barometer IMO.

Times are changing, and marriage doesn't mean what it used to. It's like Burger King: You can have it your way.

Committed to the extra government handouts they get by popping out babies outside of wedlock.

It still does for many of us. Other people not taking it seriously doesn't affect my marriage.

Certain ethnicities believe it's nomal to have a kid then get married...
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

In south Louisiana, a house build on a sand based foundation usually doesn't require pilings and doesn't shift of settle.

That was my observation, not personal opinion.

There's a great deal wrong with that. The stats prove it. Children of intact households have far better outcomes.

Yeah it's sad that some people think that's normal.

Correlation doesn't equal Causation.
Did it ever occur to anyone that the reason these children are turning out worse is because the parents fricking suck?
Sometimes divorce is just necessary.

Hilarious. You're right though, every married couple is totally committed to each other. Are people really that naive?
