I lived right there in 1994. Everybody around always said it was a professional job

Sounds like you know a whole lot about it baw.. guilty conscience ?

There was a pretty well known local guy who wrote on that and other corruption related issues and published much information on his website generally pointing to a cover up but without tying it to any real motive. He subsequently, not that long ago, committed suicide although I don't think there was any relation to any of the stuff he was reporting on.
There was a thread about this murder and this guy (may have been a poster). He made allegations that a STP judge was a pedophile that abused him in his youth and adult life.

I would think a professional hit would be done with a bullet not a knife. Less likely to be traced and quicker

Thinking ballistics would be easier to nail down, but what do I know.
A well placed knife is about as easy as it can get I would assume. We're talking about someone who didn't know if was coming and in a residential area, seems the perfect weapon if you know how to use it.

Knife attacks are usually crimes of passion, more intimate.
Usually a loved one or someone with a grudge carry out the attacks themselves. Professional jobs are as you said, usually done by guns.

Just wondering, did you read any or all of the thread? She was walking her dog in a gated community, crimes of passion are usually spur of the moment I would think.

You have to get too close though. When that happens DNA spreads. No professional would do that. Easier for the victim to possibly fight you off and scream and that takes more time. Def was someone who knew her

Not in LE, was that big back then?

It was only one knife wound and did I read it right the knife was shoved up into her and left? Seems personal and something either an ex con or possibly a ex special forces guy would do. One knife would from the back and not slitting a throat seems very ex con ish to me.

I've read the entire thread.
Crimes of passion aren't always spontaneous. More times than not, they aren't
It takes a personal grudge to jab a knife into someone. To feel the blade go into a person's body is personal.

Or the stealth of someone who knows how to do it with the quickness and silence.
With the precision of the thrush to do the damage it did so quickly, it seems professional, but what do I know.
Why not catch her somewhere other than a gated community if you planned it?
Interesting in every way, will research.

The security guards used to be a joke but they got real serious about the front gate after that.

Probably took a while to get results but I read that they did take DNA samples

OK, why not rerun them with the better tech known today? Guessing they are lost, this case is intriguing.
Just hit up a friend who might have lived there then.

From my understanding they have managed to lose everything related to this case.

This was a crime, but I seriously doubt one of passion.

Not an issue in 1987.
ETA: I don't think any court even accepted DNA evidence until 1988.
