What is a a rescue diver? Not calling you out just curious as I've only heard of rescue swimmers. It seems unless you are already in Scuba gear watching over someone else on a dive there is really no point. Diver seems more likely to recover a body than save one.

The violent crimes division handles all deaths that aren't traffic related.

What? Unless I'm missing something, your link says the opposite.

Yea and now WAFB saying they don't think there was foul play involved. Not sure why they said earlier it was turned over to violent crimes if they suspected no foul play.

Eta: The same link earlier in the day said it had been turned over to violent crimes unit before saying no foul play suspected. Thanks Phil didn't know that.

Once, in New Orleans, there was a party thrown for lifeguards in celebration of nobody drowning that summer.

100 life guards in attendance and somebody was found at the bottom of the pool.

His name was Jerome and he was not a lifeguard.

Photos on the Advocate's article show a balcony right above the pool. I venture to guess they possibly tried jumping off the balcony and into the pool.

An advanced scuba training certification to prepare one for certain unique scenarios that present in diving and how to respond. You would be surprised how many life saving rescues occur underwater. I actually have intervened and saved a guy from either a bad injury or death at 80'. Unfortunately, the training does include surfacing a body.
