Surprisingly it was not Florida.

That seems incredibly irresponsible and unprofessional on the part of the judge.
We openly adjudicate based on hurt feelings now?

Sources say Nichols then challenged the bench again, daring the judge to raise his bond to $10 million, so he did. This little game went on until the man’s bond was raised and set at $14 million.
That will certainly hold up on appeal.

I bet that felt good. Totally worth it.

Man receives $14 million bond
I watched a judge set a bond of something like two quintillion dollars one time. A local troublemaker, always in trouble but usually not for major felonies, had once again gotten drunk and done something or other. The judge, who was tired of seeing the guy coming into his courtroom and tired of setting his bonds at night, on weekends, etc., decided he was going to keep him in jail at least over the weekend. Instead of just waiting until Monday to set the bond, or ordering him held with no bond, he took the bond form and, in the blank where he was supposed to write the amount, he wrote a 2 and then just started writing zeros until he ran out of space.
On Monday, he reduced it and let the guy out, but for a day or so, that guy had probably the biggest bond ever set in Louisiana.

Wait....so this guy started acting out a scene from The Breakfast Club and the Judge went along with it?

John Bender: Eat my shorts.
Richard Vernon: What was that?
John Bender: Eat... My... Shorts.
Richard Vernon: You just bought yourself another Saturday.
John Bender: Ooh, I'm crushed.
Richard Vernon: You just bought one more.
John Bender: Well I'm free the Saturday after that. Beyond that, I'm going to have to check my calendar.
Richard Vernon: Good, cause it's going to be filled. We'll keep going. You want another one? Just say the word say it. Instead of going to prison you'll come here. Are you through?
John Bender: No.
Richard Vernon: I'm doing society a favor.
John Bender: So?
Richard Vernon: That's another one right now! I've got you for the rest of your natural born life if you don't watch your step. You want another one?
John Bender: Yes.
Richard Vernon: You got it! You got another one right there! That's another one pal!
Claire Standish: Cut it out!
Richard Vernon: You through?
John Bender: Not even close bud!
Richard Vernon: Good! You got one more right there!
John Bender: You really think I give a shite?
Richard Vernon: Another! You through?
John Bender: How many is that?
Brian Johnson: That's seven including when we first came in and you asked Mr. Vernon whether Barry Manilow knew that he raided his closet. Richard Vernon: Now it's eight. You stay out of this.

Am I the only one bothered by this?
Look, that guy is a POS and shouldn't have been such an arse - but in what way do his actions warrant any increased bond, let alone that substantial increase?
I guess I just don't think the judge should stoop to that guy's emotional level and use his power so abusively because someone said something mean to him.

Well it is contempt of court. This happens pretty regularly.
