Mamou Mardi Gras

Has anyone been before? My boyfriend just moved to Mamou so we are going for the first time this year. I grew up going to New Orleans for parades but from what I hear, it is nothing like that. What can I expect in Mamou?

I've heard Mamou Mardi Gras is ridiculous (in a good way).

I can't remember if it was Mamou or Church Point that does chicken chase.

Yes, it's so much fun---completely different from NOLA. I love going the Sat prior to Mardi Gras. Fred's Lounge

Don't know about church point but mamou definitely does. I'm probably the only Asian to ever ride in a mamou mardi gras parade and chase a chicken

I've heard Church Point and Mamou are both pretty awesome for Mardi Gras

Both do. Eunice used to be a good time as well (also chase chickens and have boudin for lunch and gumbo for supper), though, I haven't been in years so who knows now.

It's the authentic Mardi Gras. The place I grew up did the same. A group would start out in the morning going from house to house in the community and collect things for the gumbo.

They would be shithouse drunk by noon. Good times.

But to answer your question, it is very fun. You have to embrace your inner coonass though.

SWLA Mardi Gras is definitely underrated.. it's no NOLA, obviously, but it offers a different type of experience.

Mamou is fun if you like your parties trashy on the next level of trashy than the Mississippi coast crawfish fest.

Saturday in Mamou is the best. Fred's Lounge in the morning, street dance that night.

At least those trashy people know how to adhere to the real Mardi Gras traditions.

The tourist Mardi Gras is a joke.
