When my children were pre-teens they both called me daddy. My son is in college and now calls me dad, daughter is 13 and still calls me daddy. Wife is called mama. They referred to my dad (RIP) as Big Da, and my mom as Nana.

I've always called my Dad "Daddy". There was a point in my 20's where I tried out "Dad" a time or two and I never felt right about it. I love and respect my Daddy and I decided that changing what I referred to him as just because I was older indicated insecurity on my part. He raised me better than that. Now I'm a Daddy and I hope my boys feel the same way about me at some point.

My dad is still alive but we've never had a relationship - he's just an angry prick. At funerals and such, I call him by his first name.

I'd give quite a bit to have had a relationship with someone that deserved to be called daddy.

I've never heard a guy over the age of 9 not say "daddy" jokingly.

Pretty sure my dad would never talk to me again if I called him daddy. So maybe that's what happened when I was seven.

It's like the old saying - "Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy."

Though I've seen/heard that saying with "dad" too.

It's far weirder to me when grown men call their mom's "mommy" in public.
