Does anyone know what the policy of LSU is now in classes that require a certain grade, B or C for example? Does a B- or C- still constitute a passing grade for these courses?

Is this a serious question?

ETA: A B- is still a B. Surely LSU can't frick that up.

Well, maybe they can.

Just go to class. You'll be fine.

B- is still a B, however a B- will not give you a 3.0 average.

That's what I thought too, but apparently a - grade in the course is actually considered not passing. That's pure BS imho

So why are you asking if you knew the answer?

A professor mentioned this in class. Was unsure if it was true

There is no possible way this can be true.

I assume LSU is moving to a graduated scale?

A = 4.0
A- = 3.67
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
etc...

This is what I had in college. It is a much more accurate grading scale but it is an adjustment for people used to 10 pt scales.

The key is getting the - rather than a +. An A- might be a 90 and a B+ is an 89 but the difference in quality points is large 3.67 vs. 3.3.

Something about the department requiring at or above a 2.0 to pass, but a C- is not considered at or above this threshold

Don't forget the illusive A+ = 4.3

That's because they are going based on GPA. The university views letter grades as a letter regardless of +/-. However, a C- is a 1.7 GPA, thus you have not met the 2.0 requirement of the department.

I feel like this is the biggest rip off for a college student. Depending on the difficulty of the class granted....but if someone gets an A i feel like they should get that 4.0 in quality points.

That makes sense. A C- is going to be a 1.67 and most institutions require a 2.0 to graduate.

I gradauted years ago (UGA, not LSU) so things may be different...but back then no, a B- was not a B...it was a B-

So for instance if a course required a C to pass and you got a C-, tough luck pal you didn't pass.

We didn't have this...but some schools do. Typically reserved for scoring a 98+ in the class IIRC.
