Yeah, lumping Acacia with those was definitely a case of "One of these things is not like the others"

Harmless, eh? Sounds like it was pretty harmful to me. fricking dumb shite to do to pledges.

Yeah... harmless. Hundreds of people have done it for over half a century. And if some a-hole active steps out of line... you tell him to frick off.

Why is it hazing if you make pledges want to throw up but run the basketball or football players until they throw up and it's all "ok" or "just part of the program".

Talk about a double standard!

it depends on the objectives of the individual, it's all voluntary, and believe it or not there is some value in it, you get out of it what you put into it, and like my examples, it is more of a mental challenge than a physical one, just because a guy pussies out and runs crying to mama and her lawyer doesn't mean he's been mistreated for what he signed up for

47 packs?

frick my pledge class would have had no problem with that. I could have knocked out 2 on my own

I second that

the Acacias I know wouldn't have a problem with that task either

Is this where all the cool frat bros talk about how awesome it is doing demeaning and disgusting shite no halfway confident person would do, all for the sake of having friends in college?

That being said, the cigarette thing isn't that bad, even though I don't smoke, and the dog food really isn't either, but you have to be one desperate fricker to eat rotten food and puke. No way I'd sit through that.

again, as I posted above, the mental part is whether the pledges are willing to eat what they think is puke and dog food

Forcing? These kids aren't being held against their will. What is described in the video is stupid and serves no purpose, but to say they are forced isn't true.

The definition doesn't necessarily mean "to hold against one's will." It can entail to gain by the use of coercion. Sure, they could walk away at any time. To do so would subject them to being disqualified by their peers. However, under university rules they already had met all other requirements.

Coercion occurs by the hazer using intimidation to produce an outcome. Conducting tasks that make you physically sick is not an accepted practice.

I get the ritual nature of these organizations. Furthermore, I understand the need to have members prove themselves in some manner. Most organizations make new members perform required tasks that no one else wants to do, or meet a specified number of initiate hours. Something like cleaning up after parties, or meeting with members for individual interviews 10 times. Sure, a ceremony using mystery and symbolism to evoke a bit of an uncomfortable atmosphere is one thing. However, subjecting your pledges to the consumption of spoiled food, and physically working them for aimless hours? This isn't bonding, it is a simply an act of power.

In fairness, TH03 (whether he was bullshitting or not, I'll leave each to their individual opinion) did say that when he was a pledge that they had to eat their own puke, if the provided cuisine caused them to vomit.
