Rates listed are per student, per semester,

There is no way ECA is $3900 anually. It's showing $4840 for the 19-20 Semesters. So that would be $9,680 for the year

Sounds like somebody's dad is going to sue LSU.

Nephew is a student at the University of Alabama. Really impressed at how they handled students moving out of the dorms and assisted them during this emergency.

Instead of a $2,000 refund, students will now receive about $500.

Let's do some math here.

First Year Student Rent Rates Engineering Res College per semester is $4,245

OP Article Res College $890 credit

First day of the semester was January 13. Last exam day is May 9. That's 117 days. March 19 - May 9 is 52 days. That means 45% of the semester was remaining. That would mean approximately $1886 should be refunded. Obviously move in and move out days might be off by a few days.

ECA is $3900 annually. 22% returned would be $865. Which is pretty close to the $748 they're reportedly refunding.

ECA is 3980 per semester for a 4 bedroom apartment.
That's 7960 for the year. Using the 2/9 left over as per your 7/9s contention would leave a refund of 1768.89 With a 75% deduction this comes to 442. Yes they are giving this penalty.

I'm here to eat my crow. Took a quick glance at the rates and ignored the semester tag.

OP is correct. Would have done a better job linking the housing contract that outlines this.

Poor form by ResLife...they deserve the hell they should get.

There’s no way LSU will stand by this.

PR nightmare.

If you move out without resigning from LSU, you are responsible for 75 percent of the remaining spring or
summer rent for the lowest priced room offered

So basically because you don't HAVE to move out... they are gonna stick with this charge.

Yeah, LSU needs to catch a ton of crap for this, especially since just further down it says

quote:

If you are required to move out of the residence halls for the convenience of the university, you will be refunded all of
the remaining rent for the current semester and shall not be charged rent for any future term so long as you do not live
in the residence halls.

Isn't LSU asking people to leave? I would think having less people in the dorms / apts would constitute "convenience of the university" even if it's not "required".

Poor form for sure.

Also... 8,000 for 9 months in an on-campus 4 bedroom apt? That's almost $900 a month. I get living on campus has some benefits, but holy crap.

They probably could have made more clear on the site.

Very poor form indeed. I get charging a penalty to someone who just leaves. But telling people to leave if they can is a different circumstance altogether.

When I was at LSU I had a POS roommate threaten me multiple times. RA did nothing. RA’s boss did nothing. Residential life did nothing. He ended up getting arrested and I was advised by police to move off campus for my own safety. Res life even said they agreed, but then said I should go to some other dorm on campus. No way was I doing that, so I left, and they charged me “$1400 for breaking my contract.” I appealed. Denied. I appealed the denial. Denied again. Then I asked for my housing contract which clearly stated that Res life would handle any disputes between roommates, which they clearly did not do. It took having my dad, a lawyer, to point out that they too had violated the contract and it was therefore null and void for me to finally get my money back. Had I not had my dad to help fight it I would have been out $1400.

If this is confirmed true, I’m ashamed of my Alma mater on this one. Terrible look for LSU in one of the most uncertain times in human history. Looking for a quick buck and screwing anyone they can. frick that decision

Already have been. I wasn't expecting anything back (freshman living in Miller - no way on pics). They (LSU) are in a terrible spot as well. I was expecting and hoping for some type of fee bill credit.

This sounds like a middle management decision that is going get crushed by the Board of Directors.

This just screams incompetent person with limited authority.

So for a whole semester, it would be $4,304. Does it really cost $4,300 per semester for a double occupancy dorm room for one person?
