I had Sherlock Holmes check mine at Lowes. Asked to see my military Id, then called me out bc it had expired 3 months before, and their discount is only for active duty.

Ironically I was buying a drill set that was $20 cheaper on their website, but didn't want her to go through the hassle of looking it up and matching the price and all that BS, so I figured I'd just use the 10% and call it good. Boy was I wrong.

If you're in the Guard, you get a DD214 when you are released from active duty service. I got one upon completion of Basic\AIT and I got one when I came off of a deployment. I brought my DD214 in to renew my license, when it had expired and I was overseas. I didn't want to get dinged for any lapses, so I brought it. They just gave me a new license with 'Veteran' at the bottom.

I need to get my address changed on my license. I can go in and get the veteran with my new address and it is free?

I've got the older one that just says veteran underneath. And the lisence plate. Haven't gotten a ticket since. Lowes usually doesn't give the discount anymore except for vet day or 4th of July, but sometimes I get lucky.

Can you get a replacement DD214 from your basic training release? I have no clue where mine is.

You should be able to get one from your local VA office. Not the health office though. Where do you live? I can let you know for sure tomorrow where to go. I work for the VA.

If you live in Louisiana, you should talk to your local rep. Go look it up on the Ldva website. The guy in Gonzales is very helpful.

I had it and took it off.

Got tired of the 'thank you for your service' every time I used it.

10% at Home Depot too. For a while they were saying just disabled which I am but it seems like they don't care anymore.

What I like about Lowe's up here in H'ville, is they have Purple Heart parking spots just next to the handicapped ones. I thought that was classy.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

It gets old.

However, I do agree with the whole getting out of a speeding ticket bit too.

Do you find it useful ever to have veteran on your license?

Yes, if you shop at Home Depot. 10% discount there which pays all taxes. 10 bucks for every 100 you spend.

And Retired. Guess there are benefits of being in the blue card carrying club. That's one of the few places I show my retired ID.
