When I was in the hospital for open heart surgery they submitted to my insurance a total of a little over $1,000,000,000.

Do you want to edit this?

Or am I supposed to believe it cost $500,000,000 per surgery?

About 2 years ago I was talking with them about going to work for them and opening up a pediatric wing in their hospital. Talks were going good until some older fellow came in a just said "no." Apparently he shut down the last children's hospital he work for.

I guess he knew what was up

They overpaid for a lot of physician practices. Rumor has it they paid some Ortho guys from Slidell $2million/year for 5 years. The hope was to pump up the hospital numbers and sell for a nice profit. When the recent sale fell through, the investors refused to put in any more money. The amount they were paying physicians was not sustainable.

Louisiana Heart Hospital closing

The new North Baton Rouge emergency room hospital that will be used for coughs, colds, sore throats and upset stomachs may eventually graduate into a heart hospital, after it becomes a necessary trauma hospital first (for gunshot victims).

THIS is the only difference between a "profit" hospital and a "non-profit" hospital. Ones pays property taxes and one does not.

AND typically, one is very well ran (because it doesn't have this tax burden) and has to be monetary responsible.
AND the other, if supported by the taxpayer can waste as much money as possible as fast as possible.
