The state has provided a list of cute little projects they'd like to build if they had the money. What projects would you like to see the most? Do any of these piss you off?

LINK

The map showing the route of the Baton Rouge northern bypass is bizarre. It's preposterous that much of I-49 is only "Priority C".

According to this, Alexandria is getting a loop before Baton Rouge. In fact, we need a loop thread. I don't think I've ever seen one.

New bridge in BR area should be in the top priorities instead of B.

Interesting....had no idea that there was ever any plans for extending I-510 freeway through Chalmette and building a bridge to connect to WB Expressway.

The original plan decades ago was for 310 and 510 to connect with the westbank expressway (910) to form a southern loop.

A bridge to Algiers would be nice bc then we'd recruit their 5 star football talent

I'm not sure however how much we want I-510 splitting us in two along Paris Road with an eyesore elevated expressway

So what's the likelihood these projects actually happen? And then on what timeline?

They won't happen. This is all part of the sales pitch to get you to approve a huge increase in the gas tax. DOTD rolls out an " aggressive" list of projects for which they need funding. But none of this is going to happen. The state will take the money for healthcare (Medicare) expenses or something else. They've been doing this for decades. Why do you think there is billions in backlog work now? We've been paying taxes for this. The state just doesn't do anything.

Exactly ^^^^^^

Why haven't they attempted any of this in the past 30 years? Just want you to approve their massive tax hikes. It's the carrot on a stick.

Widening the interstate doesn't change the fact that MRB, College, Airline, Sherwood, and O'Neal all back up onto 110, I-10 and I-12.

It will loosen what you send going Westbound in the mornings and Eastbound in the afternoons. But until we address the arteries that take traffic away from exits within EBR, making the pipeline that runs through it bigger won't have the same impact folks think it will.

Not saying it won't help. But issues like College....Essen....Perkins...Siegen...Government...those aren't going to be fixed by a multi-year mega project. We will still have traffic problems until BR passes ordinances and zoning with teeth that require the Developers to truly pay for the traffic impacts of their development and then require new development to connect to existing development creating through streets and better gridding.

It's time to erase cul de sac's from BR Developers vocabulary.

But instead this city is worried about the results of an investigation from a proven pedophile and convicted felon with a firearm's death and race hucksters inciting division. Our real problems grow by the second while we argue over bullshite.

It always amazes me to see this and I try to share it with everyone b/c it's so unknown to many BR natives.

Baton Rouge was supposed to have a legit bypass made out of Airline Highway when I-10 came through town. This was planned in 1955!.
This should make you a little more frustrated reading about how it was cancelled.

Wiki About 410-US61

quote:

In the original 1955 plan for urban Interstate Highways, numbered by 1959, the Baton Rouge bypass was designated Interstate 410; it would have connected to Interstate 10 on both ends (as I-10 would have used the US 190 corridor immediately west of Baton Rouge, still crossing the Atchafalaya Swamp in its present location). The route was cancelled by the end of the 1960s (and the number was later reused for another Interstate 410).
