Louisiana - Traffic - Roads

LINK
From the link it's just so noticeable how many highways we do not have compared to other states. Probably due to how much wetland / swampland we have and the number of national forests.
The lack of highways around Baton Rouge / New Orleans compared to Jackson, MS, Nashville, TN, Austin, TX, etc... stand out.
There is seems to be so much traffic funneled onto I-12 and I-10. Toll-roads and feeder roads work wonders as do bypasses and loops. It's like Louisiana just enjoys dense traffic on the few roadways they have.
My question is, Why do citizens accept absolute mediocrity when it comes to infrastructure improvement?

More of our gas tax revenues goes to fund the state police than goes to actual road construction.

People complain and forget other places don't have to deal with the giant fricking river that you need to put a 140 foot high bridge across.

Oh, because traffic in Austin is bliss? Austin has no major East-West thoroughfare, everything is North-South and jammed 7 days a week.

The Mississippi doesn't run between numerous other states? Is it the only body of water in the country that cars aren't able to drive over without a bridge?
News to me

The only one with that volume of traffic for the limited amount of lanes.

Brainstorming the solution keeping your point in mind really should have started 30 years ago. That, and a very non-utilitarian city council that probably receives kickbacks to vote down anything within the city.

Houston has two loops and is working on a third. Ever been in their traffic?
It's not lack of roads so much as the deplorable condition of the existing roads.
People here don't want mediocrity but the political system is totally corrupt, backwards
antiquated. its what we get.

It is simple yet expensive. I-10 and I-12 need to be at least 6 lanes the whole way through the state. I-10 needs a Baton Rouge bypass. It can connect to the bridge that they are supposed to build in White Castle (like the one in St. Francisvolle area). It can be a toll road for all I care.
The I-49 expansion in Lafayette is a great idea, but it's going to take forever once the lawyers get involved and sue everyone to death. This is the 1 of the major reasons BR doesn't have a loop. Everyone wants it, but not in their back yard.

The problem is not the roads. It's the cars. There are way too many cars on the road.
We've got to make license plates much more expense and triple the price of gas with more taxes to fund state retirement and expand the drop program.
And tires need to be taxed more to encourage using them less.
Yep more taxes is always the best answer to fix any LA problem.

Shreveport has the best road system out of any city i have been in. Of course, it is in texas.

I hear you. That's how politicians think.
They always miss the unintended consequences which makes any problem they try to solve worse in total than doing nothing at all.

Saw something IDK. The old Mississippi River bridge in BR is named after Huey P Long. Had always knew it as the old bridge. They had just put up signs at each end.

That pretty much sums up why 10 and 12 were not expanded to 3 lanes until just recently. It's mind boggling how inept and backwards our local government is, but hey a new bar just opened up downtown. DOTD has there share of stupidity too.

fact is, in order to have good roads and other infrastructure, you need money and that comes in the form of taxes. Louisianans are so distrustful of their elected officials that taxes for such things are seldom passed....
