For my most recent job, applied in Sept, began first of several interviews on Halloween, offered the position Thanksgiving week.

6 months one time.

Interviewed for a job and they said I'd know in two weeks. Two weeks come and go and nothing. At three weeks I call the HR rep. She says "no decision yet". So I call Betty once a week at the same time. She always tells me " not yet but soon". After six months I say " Betty, tell me the truth". So she says " they hired someone six months ago that had more experience than you but they really liked you and hoped something would open up so they could hire you". I said "thanks, I won't be calling again".

9 months the next time, different company.

Final interview took 8 hours. I was declined then got a "you're hired" offer two weeks later. Been here 18 years and I'm very happy.

Just move forward with your life. Keep job hunting, you might have the opportunity to get other offers. If the current company is slow, they will be more likely to raise your offer than start over.

Exactly. People can sense a desperate vibe. There's something to be said for a candidate that exudes--whether consciously or unconsciously--that "I don't give a frick if I get this job or not" quality.

Zero days. I walk in, get offered the job, then flip the interview around and fire the person who just hired me.

If they wait more than a few weeks, you were the last resort.

had too much personal info, deleted my response

Ya I've moved on and hoping to be pleasantly surprised. It's just constantly I was told I was the leading candidate and they never rejected me.

I just got one almost a year after the initial conversation. Had a phone interview this time last year, then had to wait for the job to be posted. Applied, flew out to interview last August. They went contract route instead. The contractor's husband was also a contractor who lost his spot and they packed up and left so they needed to fill the position and came back around and made me an offer for direct hire. I start on the 27th.

I was told in Sept. that if I wanted the job, it was mine. I accepted it, then began the HR dance. I was actually hired in late January. I was then told on March 15th that 80% of the dept. was to be let go at the end of March. (You could re-apply if you would take a 23% pay cut)

There is something satisfying about getting laid off on the 15th, getting hired by a competitor on the 16th, and informing the HR of the first company that you are leaving now.

Follow up ?, do most people continue to pursue other jobs in the meantime and just take first available? If it's a dream job, how long do you wait to hear of you got the job, and would you turn down another off for the possibility of getting the first job.

It definitely depends on the situation. I decided to do an MS at a state school instead of going into huge debt, so I can afford to be a bit more selective at this point. I don't have a family to feed or any huge obligations forcing me to take whatever I could get. You can try use an offer as leverage, but often companies are going to do it at their own pace and it doesn't do you any good. My situation involves relocation and being stuck in purgatory sucks because I could be moving any minute and it's hard to build new relationships in the meantime. I'm a candidate for another job in the same city but just had a phone so far. If I do get a rejection, I'll be less selective.

Weird that you posted this because I'm in the same situation. It's been a month and they email enough to keep me hanging. The NA manager shook my hand and said you couldn't be better suited, be expecting a call.... None yet and it's pissing me off.
