I have a friend moving to Seattle in the next few weeks for a new job. She is 25 (no pics) and looking for walkability; enjoys the outdoors. Any recommendations welcome

- Neighborhoods? Job is located downtown; considering Capitol Hill, First Hill, Queen Anne, Bell Town as the top options right now

- Is a car needed? Considering selling the car since parking is not the easiest (plus would have to drive it across the country).

- Any apartment complexes you would recommend?

TIA

Hey lynx. My SIL lives in Seattle. I'll alert her to this thread.

For Seattle walkibilty estimate we'll need some shots of her in Yoga pants. They have strict standards there.

Beautiful city, couldn't live there. That misty rain is so depressing. Reason more people commit suicide there per capita

Except I'm pretty sure that's just a myth.

If she wants to take full advantage of the outdoors, then I'd highly recommend a vehicle.

Or get a bf that lives here with a vehicle

For livability, Ballard. For walkability, Belltown.

In town, Belltown.

Close, Bellevue. Both very nice. Both pretty expensive. Tell her to bite the bullet and get a cheap arse car, though. Every adult should have a fricking car.

Why? If you can get buy without one, why put yourself through all the hassle. I have a family member who has t had a car in over 5 years and I'm a bit envious. there are enough car services that it's cheap enough to rent one for a couple of hours at need ($20 an hour) and you don't have to pay thousands of dollars a year in upkeep, gas, parking, and insurance.

Convenience. Seattle has some amazing natural areas a short drive away. You'd be cheating yourself not having a vehicle.

Thats a lot of walking those areas are relatively close but depending on where she works could be a big walk. Also downtown is pretty hilly making walking not much fun.

Also if she likes outdoors she will need a car.

Parking downtown is not that much of a pain.

The drive to Seattle is quite enjoyable.

Bell Towns overpriced. Queen Anne is overpriced. Does she have an engineering job? If not, she'll struggle with the housing bubble in Seattle. I'm moving there myself after graduating from LSU in EE, however I have a job lined up with Amazon. I can afford to live in all the places mentioned previously, however, West Seattle is truly a hidden gem. She probably can't afford any of the afore thoughts, but whatever. Hopefully her secretary job can see her through.

I have only been there for a few days, but the city did not seem that walkable at all...honestly, I ended up taking a taxi a half dozen times in the two days that I was there...

may have just been the particular part of the city that I was dealing with, though...
