Its about the innovation that would take us that that we value. Also drugs, our body, our understanding of the universe would all change if we began a colonized mars. We'd also physically evolved if we lived there long enough

People are getting tired of the expression "What on Earth are you doing?"
It would be nice to switch it up so we can say "What on Mars are you doing?"

because can you leave behind all the poors and liberals on earth? no you cant so mars would be a breath of fresh air, literally

Supposedly impossible by many physicists, would be one of the biggest game changers for all of mankind if it works.

We need to get out of the solar system.

It's a 100% private venture I might add.

If that's the life to expect there, why wouldn't we just colonize the Arctic or the vast deserts around the world. There are many unlivable places currently on Earth that would be made livable if we're just going to live in glass domes.
Why travel millions of miles to do that?
The idea is that diversification gives our species a greater chance to survive. At some point earth is going to have another extinction level event, whether that's a long tail comet, nuclear war, supervolcano, solar flare, etc.

That's what I was thinking. Separate the survival of the human race from the Earth and its moon.
Huh? So, hypothetically speaking for a moment, we colonize Mars and it explodes first. What was gained??
My favorite on this topic is the brilliance it takes to actually believe that we could convert the atmosphere over time to a 20% O2 earth-like atmosphere. Whatever floats your boat.

I just never understood why Mars in particular always comes up in this conversation.
(Actually Carl Sagan's book "Cosmos" explains why but it's too long to put in here).
I just don't understand why we never look at other celestial bodies that have a climate more suited towards the Hospitable Zone to do this. For example Europa or another moon of Jupiter.

You ever heard of the saying "never put all of your eggs in one basket"?

The human species has to start adapting to life on other planets. At some point, the sun will go out, and the humans have to find another sun to keep on going.

The problem with Mars is that it's pretty much impossible to carry enough fuel to get there AND to get back.
The amount of thrust/fuel you need to get off Mars' surface for a return flight to Earth is not yet feasible.

if whatever humanity evolves to is still around billions of years from now I hope they would have figured out interstellar travel by then lol

I already posted about the reactionless Cannea drives and EM drives to be tested in space early next year.
