I was just reading an AMA with Elon Musk about how he envisions life on Mars. Basically, it's living in glass domes and using underground tunnels.

If that's the life to expect there, why wouldn't we just colonize the Arctic or the vast deserts around the world. There are many unlivable places currently on Earth that would be made livable if we're just going to live in glass domes.

Why travel millions of miles to do that?

I'm pretty sure it's all about resources. Governments think Mars has plenty of it.

ETA: Underground resources

why colonize other planets in search for extraterrestrial life when we already communicate with 57 different species of intelligent alien life?

Perhaps as a Genesis-type project?

What is the feasibility of transporting natural resources back to Earth?

Pre-terraforming.

Climate change will make the Earth so uninhabitable, that Martian domes will feel like Beverly Hills

If we're going to live in glass domes, is climate change even relevant?

Because humans are natural explorers and some people seek to change life as we know it as opposed to bitching about stuff on the interwebs.

You should be thankful such people are around.

I knew you were being sarcastic, but I assumed that fleeing Earth due to climate change would be one of the answers. So, if we are going to live in glass domes on Mars, we might as well stay here and live in glass domes.
