It's what I call a New Orleans merge. Very effective when some asswipe won't let me in when it's obvious to both of us that I need to merge yet you're being the obstinate dickhead who refuses to let me in. One dickhead move begets another.

This happened to me this morning, and I had the same thought

College and nicholson by AM mart. If you think you can go all the way down the right lane and expect me to let you in right before the train tracks, youve got another thing coming. Ive been sitting in that traffic and i will be bumper to bumper so no one can get a nose in. Id rather crash my car than let you in. And its a shitty car so frick you. You can wave and signal all you want, but you aint getting in bitch

Never understood people that demand a wave or gesture for letting someone in. Had a dude almost curse me out at a red light because he apparently 'let me in' earlier down the road and I didn't wave to him. frick off man. There's a lot of traffic on the road and people are in a hurry. I'm not taking my hands off the wheel and taking my eyes off the road to turn around and give you a peace sign.

For anyone familiar with Houston, the 59 ramp onto 610 towards the Galleria is full of assholes who are too good to wait in line and drive in the shoulder on a turn to cut in right before the merge.

This is the where I can pinpoint the source of my being stubborn on letting people in.

If everyone would just know how to zipper in, there would be no problem.

the worst is when people cut you off then wave like you let them over.

most drivers think the "Yield" sign means I have a right to merge whenever I want, or GTFOOTW

That is actually approved and encouraged by traffic engineers the world over. You're supposed to use empty roadway instead of changing lanes before you have to. It helps traffic move faster.

I have a winch bumper, tire carrier, and sliders. If I put my nose put, I'm getting over.

Sorry baw.

Its funny you mention that because I was thinking of my Road Armor front bumper and how if I didn't want to let you in, you weren't getting in. No one wants to chance it with a 250lbs steel bumper lol.

My windows are tinted just enough that people can't see my waves and it bothers me, but not enough to roll down the window to wave

The best thing to do is to drive as far down to the traffic obstruction as possible before then trying to merge with flowing traffic

Completely correct. There's no rule that says you have to merge before the merge point like a herd of sheep. That just slows down traffic.

I fully understand that but as this thread shows, it makes most people think you're a dickhead.

It sucks either way.

What people don't realize is that by being "nice" and letting one person in you're inadvertently being an a-hole to every single person behind you. I rarely let people in the lane while driving

I have come to notice at my time at DOTD that engineers don't consider stupid people (most of the time)

I always get off on College going westbound. That exit lane starts at the 10/12 split. Yet people use that lane to get ahead. Sometimes that lane will back up halfway to the split but when I finally get towards the end it clears up because everybody else got over.

traffic engineers

This term makes me laugh, in some parts of the world (like Atlanta).

I saw a roundabout (one lane, mind you, that is to say-- useless) with integrated pedestrian crossings on both sides of the main arteries (and pedestrian crossings somewhat retired from the ´gadget´ on either side of the inferior feeder arteries).
