Tyson would beat him down in a street fight. BL fans seem to forget that Tyson came up as a street fighter. MT would lay the wood 10 out of 10 times.

Thats probably the worst sparring video I've ever seen. He pushes a guy who sits down, and kicks his chair backwards across a floor...... BRILLIANT

I admit I don't know a whole lot about martial arts, but Lee was fast and very strong (see footage of his one inch punch)

It's Jackie Chan that's the hype. He was trained as an acrobat, not a martial artist. Everything he's ever done was for show.

I grew up with some guys that swore Jackie Chan in the late 70's-early 80's could beat Lee. They were from the Philippines, so I took it as fact.
The Rush Hour J.Chan was good, can only imagine what he was 30 yrs prior.
EDIT:thanks Kafka, never knew that

Well, duh. This is the dumbest argument of them all. Tyson was a heavyweight boxer. Bruce Lee was a 140 lb martial artist. Of course someone like Tyson could wear him down. That does not diminish Lee's skills at all.

Then tell that to the guy I responded to.

Oh shite, here we go again. 10 pages min.

Ok, let's think about this; How many guys have had Karate or Tae Kwon Do as their base and been MMA champs? The reason they don't tend to do well in MMA is because of their stance (their legs would get destroyed by a Muay Thai player) and because they hit "at" targets, not "through" targets...not to mention that they spend ZERO time in the clinch, much less on the ground.

I would say that ANY current UFC lightweight AND below would be able to get him to the ground and strangle him unconscious in less than 2 minutes.

I watched an interview with Chuck Norris. Norris said he and Bruce Lee would fight one-on-one quite often in private. He said sometimes he would win, sometimes Lee would win.

Anthony Pettis (Tae Kwon Do)
GSP (Kyokushin karate)
Anderson Silva (mixture of Thai and Tae Kwon Do)
Chuck Lidell (Kenpo Karate)
Lyoto Machida (Shotokan Karate)
Benson Henderson (Tae Kwno Do)

Actually Tae Kwon Do is starting to show up strong in MMA because they can kick from more angles than Thai Boxers and fighters have learned how to defend against Thai boxers.

Few people know that Bruce Lee fought in competitions during the 50's and 60's. He even defeated Vic Moore, Joe Lewis and Gene Lebell.

Bruce lee was a 130lb actor that was addicted to speed. I like his movies but he would have his arse handed to him by any professional fighter in under a minute. Lee's fighting reputation was the product of very savvy management in a time where media coverage was limited making it much easier to get away with b.s. statements.

I'm not sure about him fighting gene lebell. At least I don't think he fought him in a tournament I could be wrong. I do know gene has said that Bruce was legit, they did spar together; also gene fought in perhaps the first sanctioned fight when he fought a boxer.

That's why I said "tend". No doubt there have been a few of them, but it just doesn't happen that often.

Even though MMA fights spend MUCH more time standing than they used to, fighters just cannot be successful in the sport unless they've spent TONS of time in the clinch and on the ground.

The TKD fighters you're referring to have also learned take down defense. I don't know if Bruce Lee knew the first thing about take down defense. That's the main reason I said he'd get choked to sleep in less than 2 minutes.

Ill disagree with gsp. I know he learned karate first and used it as his base at first, but since his loss to Matt Serra I would say wrestling is his base now.

I wasn't talking about Bruce Lee.

I was just commenting that a lot of fighters are coming in with TKD and Karate bases now as well as Judo.

Bruce studied freestyle wrestling extensively actually.

In fact, his Kung fu studies were relatively short in conparison when he started thinking about JKD. The basis for his martial art was a lot of boxing and wrestling. He thought of Mma long before many people did, and he had the same approach as what people have today. That is streamlining what works.

He felt western boxing and wrestling combined with catch wrestling, judo, and the various kicking arts was practical
